Hi, Im new to the forum, just wanted to post a thread asking for any advice on pregnant mares.
I've just bought a 13.2hh 6 year old coloured mare who is due to foal on april 10th. I've never had a pregnant mare before so I'm looking for as much information as possible regarding how I should be keeping her (in, out, combination of the two??), what i should be feeding her (hay, grass, what sort of hard feed?? Chaff, mix, barley???? HELP!!!), should she be in any sort of work and if its ok to work her, what should she be doing, just gentle walking hacks? Worming routine? Vaccinations? There's so much to find out! She arrives over the weekend so frantic information gathering going on!

Pop this post in the lounge where you'll get a better response.

But also chat with your vet to see what he advises for your little horse.

Good luck

Basic advice would be keep working her even gently until about 8 months then still try and do some gently exercise with her even if it is just in hand walking out, the fitter they are the easier it is for them to foal.
As for feeding keep her feeding the safe up until about 8 months again then she will gradualy start to bag up and you can slowely increase her feed.
This is general advice but try your vet or get the book Modern horse breeding it is fantastic. Also contact any feed manufactor (sp) buy phone or email and they will be a great help.
Just relax and enjoy the mare will do the majority of it all on her own and you will wonder what you ever worried about, enjoy.
PM me if you want any other info, will try to help, i still remember my first pregnant mare and trying to get everything perfet
