Afternoon All

Have got an ODE next Sunday and the test is prelim 10.

I've learnt it and have pretty much got it cracked but I wanted to ask a quick Q regarding the following move:

MBF Working Trot
FD Half Circle right 10 metres diameter returning to the track at B

At the moment we are returning to E with an inside bend as if we were doing a 10m circle then doing a really sharp left turn at B which is ruining our tempo and normally results in the boy flinging his head up.

I am not sure if I am doing it right and just need to keep working on it or if I should be changing the direction before B or even straightening out a bit....but that would mean we were not doing a 1/2 circle anymore!

Arggh, I hope this is clear and would appreciate any advice. I have a lesson with my trainer on Wednesday and will ask for her input/advice then but I'll be in the school tonight and would like to start to try and work this out.

Thanks in advance.

Do your half circle to the centre line. When you get to D ride in a straight line to B. You then merge in with the track with only slight bend and certainly no sharp turn.

Hope that makes sense?

oh i got that dressarge test the other day but it looked far too hard for the likes of me and skittly man so we just discarded it

OK that does make sense, more of a 1/2 egg shape than a 1/2 circle? It would give me an opportunity to swap my inside/outside leg/hands over so we hit the track at B soft on the inside already.

Thanks - much appreciated.

its like a tear drop at the 1st part of the test then you have to do it on the other rein then do your 2om circle (am i right or in the wrong part? i rode a little wide as flint did the same and i didnt seem to get marked down on that (just tense!)

Hi

This should be a relatively easy mark to get and will also help get your horse up together for the rest of the test!

What you should do is half half and flex your horse to do the 1/2 circle, sit up straight, half halt and keep your horse forward and softly flexed to the inside... being careful not to overshoot D....then turn your head towards the letter and ride positively forward to it- making a nice straight line....that is it!!

You will be fine, once practiced it is a great movement!

Let us know how you get on,

Thanks heaps all - much clearer now and this is the erfect move to get the boys hocks underneath him and soft up front so should do a lovely 20m for me (yup, you were right Flintus).

Dutch, thank you for the walk through of the movement, I won't practice again tonight (getting some poles out so he does not get stale) but will try again tomorrow.
