I have done numerous Intros and having now successfully come first and been placed in a championship show I want to try a prelim with him (he's only 4) and wondered which of the above tests is more sympathetic in terms of canterwork. Our trot and transitions are fine its our transitions in canter that may not be 'to the marker'

I dont have copies of either yet so wonder if you could give a lowdown of what is expected and what the canterwork in the test involves.

Thanks

prelim 4, on left rein canter at K (i think), 20mt circle in middle and all the way round to K again. Repeat on right rein at M. Very easy, was my horses first prelim.

I like 4 because it's symmetrical and easy to remember but you do have to be accurate as you have to canter at a specific marker. Whereas 7 if I remember, you canter between markers but I'm not 100% certain. Also 7 has less canterwork. I personally think 7 is easier for a first test although not so easy to remember.

I think Prelim 4 feels very straight forward :)

Hmm ok, I think I might have to buy the tests and looks them over. Its not until the 9th Nov so a bit of time to decide yet!

Thanks guys :)

I think 7 - its a nice test and the canter is easy and helped by the transition needing to happen between X and C so you're already on a circle giving nice bend and then its just a simple canter around the arena then trot between 2 markers- simples ;)

I have a grown up horse with a weak canter so always looking for the test to suit him.

Good luck!
