Premier equine boots

After nearly 6 trusty years, the stitching on my eskadron cross country boots is beginning to look a little weary and so I am contemplating relegating them to schooling boots and buying some more secure ones for competition. Was looking at the premier equine ones in shop the other day but when I looked on website see they come in 3 varieties

Which is most appropriate for horse competing at BE novice level with occasional days hunting? Not extravagant jumping technique, happy to go through top of brush fences rather than clear by a mile so need something that won't tear on twigs (fortunately picks his feet up bit more over 'solid' fences ) doesn't brush normally so strike pad on fetlock area shouldn't take too much strain but clearly needs to be protective enough if catches himself turning etc.

Am guessing the lightweight ones offer less protection so more for racing where weight important? Can anybody advise the advantages/disadvantages of the original vs the BL1 (other than the price)? The ones in my local tack shop are the original but wondering if the BL1 boots are worth the extra money?

I have spotted food is offered at this point for advice :D I have apple crumble just out the oven and can rustle up a little custard if required :p

Mmmmm :D I love apple crumble...

Unfortunately have no experience of the PE eventing boots though :(

We use Equiflect boots front and back for eventing and hunting, and could definitely recommend both in terms of fit and durability (have a three part tendon guard which fits both skinny TB and large IDx), but hopefully someone will answer soon who is a PE person...

I have PE air cooled original fronts - really impressed with them! To me they offer great protection

My hinds came in the post this morning - I got the 2012 original in white (no black left! Xc boots should never Be white ;)) and again pretty impressed

They only difference with the bl1 is they have a total leather covering whereas a small area of the original are the strong nylon but its only very small

The originals will be totally fine - and cheaper!

I've got the leather covered ones, and theyre fab. Lightweight, fit well and don't budge! They were the xtreme ones, so not sure what they are now!

Thanks. Couldn't spot what the difference was on website so thats really helpful :) Not sure I can get away with white for hunting ... Maybe I could keep my old black ones for that though :p

I got the BL1's front & hinds for my birthday. Great for a bold youngster who hadn't worn boots before as really comfy (so he tells me ;))

Easy to put on & keep clean - I don't have the bag thingy though, just put into a bucket of water, sponge off and hang to dry!

Quick question: Why not buy a new pair of eskadrons? We used to have eskadrons but then changed (for no particular reason) and now have some PEs which twist frequently!

My PEs span and rubbed my horse, her leg blew up and she needed a scan to make sure nothing was damaged. I use EcoGold now, love them. Would use NEW ones otherwise, although the new LeMieux ones on the horse health website look interesting!

I like the PE boots - very good value for money. I think they are like all boots, the sizing of them suits some horses and not others.

I don't like the PE Hinds, they always slipped and turned on billy even though fitted properly.

I bought the dalmer hinds and they are brilliant, never slip and fit very well! :)

TBH partly down to cost. Also would like to try the air cooling, don't trust the CF strike pad in dalmars after hearing horror stories so the PE seemed to fit the bill. Interesting to hear about the twisting though. I have tried a friends prolites which twist on my horse so maybe the more moulded boots would be better.

Thanks :)

(I am very aware of the difference between core and surface temperature but also understand heat radiates so if skin temperature lower, in my mind that means the core heat as somewhere cooler to go. And if it doesn't make a difference then I've not lost anything against non- air cooled)

I have 2 sets of PE boots, they get used on several horses and have never moved on any of them, the hinds do need to be put on firmly I go back and redo the straps a second time just to make sure they are really secure.

Love the PE fronts. They've never moved, horses are fine in them and they do a good job. The back's are another story though and slip big time, even if I have them done up more firmly than I'd like. At the moment I do without them, but will need to replace them in the future.

Same for me fronts are fine but hinds slip down big time whatever I do, need to replace them ASAP possibly with the trizone ones. Also found the straps are beginning to fray and although I've had them a year with the rubbish weather we've had I've only used them 5 times! My mare is a 16.2 three quarter TB if we think they suit some types better I would say she looks like a slightly chunky TB never had a problem with slipping boots on her before. That said she managed to climb all over a flower box at Oasby in quite dramatic style and came back without a scratch so they obviously do their job

I have the new kk3's and they are great! The big advantage that these have over the air cooled is the fronts now have a Cannon bone strike guard. Really nice boots for a great price

WE have used PE boots for years - just decided that the first set we ever bought are now no longer usable for competiton as looking tatty (about 6 years old) We have used them on numerous horses and ponies and find they never move and give fab protection. Wash and wear brilliantly :)

I'm also looking to buy some boots for XC so following this thread with interest. Like kirstyhen I have seen the LeMieux ones in the Horse Health catalogue but I am guessing they are too new for anyone to have tried them?
