I'm considering buying a fly rug from premier equine - my horse takes a 5'9" in a shires or weatherbeeter. Do PE rugs run to similar sizing, or are they bigger or smaller?

This is my 14.1 in a 5ft6. She has an amigo on underneath which is a 5ft9 (her usual size).

My last mare & my current gelding are 6'3" in weatherbeeta, shires & masta. Both are 6' in PE, so yes, I think they come larger & you may need to go down a size.

They do appear to be a size bigger - except for those who have native/cob shapes & then you DO need to order the usual size to allow for neck room.

The better qual PE rugs come up larger than the cheaper ones; eg, the storm buster & the trio in a 6ft measure the same size exactly when laid on the floor as the Bustino 200 5ft 9. (which-ever way you measure them!)

The Trio, Bustino 200, Buster70x & also Stormbuster in a 6ft fitted a 15hh ISH (a LW/MW type) - and same fitted a 16.2 (LW).

The 6ft Buster 70x & the Bustino 200 are too snug in the neck for a 14.2 MW (not fat either) native & could do with having a 6'3 to try....

HTIOH :)

My mare was a 14.3 round, peachy chunky Sec Dx and my gelding is a 15.2/3 big-boned but still growing so not peachy yet full Sec D.

I find the necks are perfect for natives, with some of the Weatherbeetas in particular having necks that are too big by the time you get up to 6'3".

Have gone for the 5'6" in the Sweet Itch Buster with belly flap - £15 off in the sale - fingers crossed it will fit as it is the only size they have left until next year!

It says in the catalogue that this is the right size for a 14hh and Ffion's photos have really helped, so have your other comments - thank you for your help. She has a short neck too.

Really wanted the belly strap version - had the Mark Todd Ultra Combo as a second choice so this will be my back up if I have to send it back.

Ordinarily they're true to size, and lovely and generous, but my fly rug from premier equine was way too small. Also all the midges gathering around his nether regions, got stuck underneath it and couldn't get out so bit him repeatedly. Ended up selling it on eBay and resorting to spray.

Thanks for your help guys, rug arrived at half eight this morning (fab service from Premier Equine as only ordered at 9am online yesterday) and fits perfectly! Really pleased, I think the size up would have been massive on her.
