I'm hoping to do a bit of XC with my boy this year, but as we're both new to it I don't want to splash out on anything too expensive in case we hate it/are terrible at it. The Premier Equine boots seem very reasonable - and there's three different sorts. Are they any good? I'd get Prolites if I could justify them, but just can't - have already spent a fortune this year on new saddle, trailer and 4x4 so am thinking of the pennies here.

The ultimate ones are identical to the most expensive woof wear ones.
They are light flexible and breathable with reinforced tendon and cannon guards. The material containg kevlar so is very strong.

yep they are good

ive got prolites in front, and PE behind (as couldnt get prolites to fit)
. they are not as good quality as the prolites ie. some of the stitching isnt great, but for the money they are very good and dont compromise on protection. the hinds have very solid cannon bone guards. ive got the extreme hinds
definetly the a good choice of boot imo

Thanks for that! They sound like they'll be super for me - I can't imagine they'll get heavy use but I'll keep an eye on the stitching.

What's the sizing like? Mine is 16hh skinny TB (8 inches bone in front) with short cannon bones.

my 16.2 SH has large hinds, that fit him perfectly. hes quiet a large chap, mabye yours would be better with medium?
i think the sizing is pretty standard.
you could always send them back if they dont fit, the service is very good and they will come next day

Would go for medium. the sizing is the same as the Prolites, and my 16.2hh Lwt/Mwt (has got a bit of bone!) is fine in the Medium prolites, though would prob get a large behind next time, but that is because he has alot of bone!!

Thistle have you not had a prob with them slipping? Someone on a clinic I went to had those ones, and had to keep getting off as they were slipping down

Yay. the extreme ones are great. the medium fit my cob perfectly but that is probably no use to you really!!

never had any problems with slipping they always stay put, never shift.
I personally have had probs with NEW wear hind boots spinning around and slipping so was relieved that Premier ones stay put.

No, they don't slip at all. Just had the new catalogue today, they are now called Kevlar boots.

They did slip the first time I used them but then realised that as the material is slightly stretchy you have to put them on and go round and tighten them up slightly then they are fine.

I have a medium set on a fine limbed 15.3

I got a set in medium for my TB and although I really really liked them they were too big and moved/spun round so I had to get rid, she is a m/w TB and normally a cob size...

Nice boots though - just a pity too big.

Ah ok. I know the Woof ones slip so have avoided them . Have Prolites at the mo, but when they give up will be picking up the PE ones. Still prefer the Extreme or aircooled though as like nice big tendon guards!!

Spooky I was going to ask the EXACT same question!

I even have the new brochure to hand !

So what are the pros and cons of the

aircooled
extreme
Kevlar eventing boots?

Just not sure which to go for! The Kevlar look chunky?

I am also just starting out and at the mo, he jumps XC w'bare legs, I am only doing baby heights but feel he should be protected.

Would you aso wear Over reach boots as a precaution too?

The people at Premier Equine are all really friendly and super helpful. If you email them your horses size and what you want the boots for they'll tell you exactly what you need. As with any boot, if you treat them right, they'll treat you right and last forever.

I think they're ok. TBH I prefer my N.E.W Lightweight ones and use those most. But I use the Premier Equine ones for low-level stuff or training. They come up too high on one of my horses hinds and push on his chestnut (which makes him buck!) so I cant use them on him

I've got loads of premier equine stuff & I think it's really good so wouldn't hesitate in buying their xc boots, it's only that I've already got prolites or else I would buy PE.

Iv'e got their tendon & fetlock boots for SJ, the tendon boots are great the fetlock boots tend to slip round the wrong way after a bit of warming up.

I always use over reach boots for jumping in - Ronnie still hasn't quite grasped the concept of controlling all 4 legs at once, and I'd rather have him over-protected than under! I use the Mark Todd Competition neoprene OR boots, they're brilliant.
