My 25 year old, Arab refuses to wear turnout rugs full stop. I keep him in on rough weather days and just walk him around the yard inhand and he's happy enough with that.

In the cold weather last year, I invested in an under rug to go with his ancient WB winter stable rug and he was warm enough but I want less faff and a rug he can walk out in the rain in. I'd like a 'dual purpose' one.

I LOVE Bucas rugs and use them for my younger horse. I can't really justify the cost of one for the oldie as he won't be turned out in it. But I was looking at the Premier rugs and they have some that are indoor/outdoor ones at a reasonable cost.

How warm are they? He's not clipped or a wimp and he's in a barn with other horses (so it's usually warm) but I am fussing a bit before winter :o

Do you mean Premier Equine? If so I've recently bought a 40g turnout rug from them for my boy and I have to say I'm delighted with it. He is completely clipped out and it is keeping him warm enough so far - he wears it in and out of the stable. It is a turnout rug though - not sure what your boy's problem is with turnout rugs but this one does fit beautifully and doesn't have leg straps which I know some horses don't like. I hope this helps.

Thanks, yes I meant Premier Equine.

He refuses to be turned out in a rug. He freaks out and gallops from one piece of fence to another and then becomes 'frozen' in place.

Last time I tried it, I couldn't get him in for 36 hours (even though he REALLY wanted to come in) as he stood in the middle of a pond and couldn't bring himself to move out of it.

He got beaten up by a WB, really badly a few years ago and it all stems from there (even though he wasn't wearing a rug at the time).

Ahhh - I see your problem, poor boy.

My boy wears his PE rug as a turnout and stable rug and the one thing I will say is that it never seems to move an inch. Its probably the only rug I've ever had on him that stays where its supposed to be even after a good roll so I'd definitely recommend them. Probably not the cheapest turnout you'll come across though.
