Hi, my names Orla and i'm ridden by someone who uses this this forum, Claire, i think you all know her as MDM...

Anyway, i'm not to sure about the prep. she has been doing with me for my first BE event of this season, coming up in just over 1 weeks time...

For a start, i've only been sat on a couple of times since last Oct, as she has been leading me from another horse.. i'm defo. fit enough tho, we even galloped up a field the other day like this, and the horse she was riding is an ex-racehorse and i kept up with it

The 2 times she has sat on me since last Oct has been to jump, which i was told i did very nicely, but it was only over 2'6 in a big barn for a team thing...

My question is this... do you think i should resist bucking her off in the dressage at this event???

yours
Orla

Go for it Orla, best when she does that funny thing when they let go of the reins and you are supposed to take the contact down and forward .It will teach her ,but maybe you have enjoyed the rest

Dear Orla,

It sounds like you've had a great winter. Are you sure you even remember what dressage is? I would think it would be quite easy to conveniantly forget after this winter of fun, after all it will probably be raining sideways and you will be on a rugby pitch after all (if it's Aldon you're going to) - not really a place one associates with elegance and restraint is it? I think a buck or two would be far more fitting for the setting, and have you got any bright ideas on how you could recreate a scrum? It has occured to me that your (part-time) rider could be talking about taking you to B&W, but they have other interesting things there in the summer that you could try to fit in with, like parachutes, trick motorbikes, etc...

I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

Yours,

T_E

Hi Orla - I'm Fiddler ridden by lumpy teenager who has usurped me for a white faced ginger mare

, i'd be tempted to do a perfect dressage test then explode down the final centre line in a fit of bronchs at the end!!

Orla, I can see how it would be great fun, although at the end of the day we all have to look after no. 1, and if you chucked the part time rider off whilst miss behaving in the dressage, she might become a full time rider, who wants to do lots of dressage training! BOORRING!!

So if I were you, I'd behave and look forwards to all the nice hacks being tagged on next to your TB buddy!

Hi Orla,

It no goop to buck your mummy off she won't like it. She will be impressed if you show all your good attributes to the judge. Try going down the centre line on 2 legs back or front doesn't really matter. Show the judge your jumping ability by leaping over the white boards, my mum likes me doing this cause she always jumps me back in again! In canter a few flying changes are really impressive and show a bit of extention in the canter (can be combimned with jumping white boards). When you go up the centre line to finish give the judge a nice close look at you and halt immediatly in front of the bonnet, then stick your tounge out.

If your mum doesn't appreciate this there is always the water jump later!! Don't buck her off though that is bad.

hi Orla, my name's Monty and although I have now been sold by my owner CCJ I was in much the same position as you last year. They decided I had to event six months early when that tart Jonty hurt her leg.
They took me showjumping twice, then did one one hired session of Winkleigh XC course, I soon showed 'em I liked jumping as I did all the Pre Novice fences straight off!
I'd never seen the fancy stuff until I actually went to the event, and although I was really tempted to go BOING! in that funny fenced place, I resisted, just tried to go a lot faster than the brat wanted.. I liked the sj part, and bucked high over a few for fun!
The best bit is the XC, just you galloping steadily over the fences. You'll love that bit.
I would say I would chat you up at the next event but I've now gone to a new home to do BSJA showjumping, sad really as I loved the galloping bit the best .
I wouldn't misbehave if I were you, the rider's pretend they don't mind being last but really they HATE it...
(a few squeals etc XC are allowed though, have fun..) Monty xxx

personally Orla, i would lull MDM into a sense of false security by completing the dressage (after a fashion that is) and then as you leave the arena, fall gracefully yo the ground, put your hooves in the air and pretend you have expired with the shock and effort. Then you wont have to bother bucking her off she will get off ( if not already squashed) and give you enormous amounts of pats and cuddles and sugar and probably not even bother to make you do the jumping (unles you want too!).

Dear Orla
I have never done a ODE - I think my mum has plans to start that this spring. My friend Goddy has given me some good advice though so I think I know what to expect. I have done 3 dressage tests this winter and it is fun to tow my mum round quite fast, she is all red in the face when she gets off! We have also been SJ which was great fun although I have had to teach the human a lesson that if she kicks me into a fence I'll put in a massive leap and send her into orbit - funnily enough she hasn't done it since. We have been Bloodhounding too and I think the pilot was quite pleased that I jumped everything (although one of the ponies I jumped wasn't planned) and was brave in the river. What was funny though was being really strong and wearing her out by pulling a lot - my friend Goddy told me about that one - he is full of great ideas so I will get more from him before my first ODE. I don't really do bucking but thought I might try and jump the judges car next time......
