I find myself at odd moments wistfully checking my tack and making notes for items that need replaced while the two hunters are enjoying their summer holidays playing silly games in the paddock.

Does anyone use Sealskinz socks for hunting? Last winter I thought my toes were going to fall off. Any recommendations?

You need merino, cashmere or silk socks to keep your feet warm! Also, traditional boots are only quite thin, consider something lined like the equitector boots for a bit more warmth.

You need to have a bit of room around your toes, to allow blood to circulate in them, and air to circulate around them to keep them warm. The temptation is to ram your boots full of as many socks as you can, but this is counter-productive.

Sealskinz will only really help if your feet normally get wet out hunting!

When I was out (mock hunting but still out for hours) I wore my insulated Ariats, never had cold feet.

Thanks JH

I use both cashmere and pure wool socks...alas the toes were still getting cold. someone remmended the sealskinz because the reduce the moisture buildup around the feet and therefore keep the feet warmer or so I was told!

And you can tuck everything well in to tights so that nothing comes adrift!! No draughts round the back!!

Booked my mini schnauz in for her next strip and realised by then we should be out on earlies......harvest permitting. Won't be long......have started walking my old boy round the roads already.

If you don't want the cost of new boots then buy some new insoles for your boots, get the wool ones if you can, and before you put them in cut to shape and glue a piece of alcan foil to the bottom, this will reflect the heat back in.

For ski-ing and other extreme sports you can buy "2nd Skins" they have a website or you can see them on ebay.
The foot part is very thin and will keep your feet warm whilst wicking the sweat away from the skin.
The whole body suit is great as not only does it stop you getting cold and wet put it also prevents the build up of lactic acid in the muscles, thats the bit that makes you ache the next day. its so thin it will go under anything. When I hunt the only part not in the suit is my head as I have the under gloves as well. Never been cold since and I don't feel the aches the next day.
