My mare did not fancy going in the lorry the other day and someone loaded her pretty easily using a prssure halter that tightened all round her head when she pulled back but released immediately when she moved towards it. I was looking for one online but they all look like knotted rope halter, which is not the same as the one he used. Can anyone recommend one?

have you seen the be nice halters. the put pressure across the poll when they pull against it but when the come forward the release the pressure. i have one for my welsh D and it works with him.

could have been a be nice or there are cheaper ones that do simmilar thing. i would recomend the dually though especially if you have not used one before it comes with a DVD on how to use u can also use as normal halter to.

i just bought this halter 4 days ago .. as i felt my horse was becoming bargy, bolshy when leading .. i have to say the diff it has made in 4 days is Amazing!!! best £10.50 ive spent .

Maybe a Richard Maxwell one? It is like the one you describe and releases immidiately,i have one. You can get it from his website and it comes with a dvd explaining now best to use it. I find it very effective!! x

Thanks for advice all - v helpful.

Don't worry Highlandponylass, I'm only looking to use this for loading as otherwise my mare is fine to handle. Would never tie up in one of these.

Incidentally, has anyone here tried a chifney for a similar purpose as pressure halter? How do you think they compare in terms of severity and control?

Honestly- my unloadable mare used to rear and throw herself on the floor ( I kid you not) but after 3/4 of a hour groundwork with the richard maxwell halter she walked in like an angel. I practised not far off every day for 3 months before going anywhere, and she walks in like an angel every time now. I always take it with me just in case. And I have got another horse in a box with one too. You get a DVD with it.

WORTH THEIR WEIGHT IN GOLD!!

I agree totally, the Richard Maxwell halter worked wonders for one we had that was difficult to load. Just a couple of sessions of ground work with it, then tried it for loading and he loaded almost immediately.

Benice halters for ours, Have had 2 that havent been keen on loading, as soon as Benice on they walk straight up. Practice with them first to let them get the feel of it tho

Ive got the Polly products one, it was a god send for me when my Welshie was younger and going through a bolshy stage! It was the ONLY thing which I could lead and load him in which didnt result in him charging off. It worked so well, I can happily handle him in a headcollar nowadays. The only problem I have with it is if you pull and you're in front (like loading), the string can pull forward into their eyes. But then again, its only cheap!

DEF recommend Richard Maxwell halter- bit more expensive then some but it'll last forever and you get a demo DVD- very important, bit corny but the ropes only as good as hands using it. Put time into practicing using the halter with horsey and it will help no end when you come to loading.

Had MAJOR loading problems in past (our records include an unexpected over night stay at a competition and an average of 6 hours to load...) We have changed and tried many things and this is certainly one of the factors that has contributed to success in getting him loading.

Good luck!
