I am having real difficulty finding a dressage saddle for Blaze and me. Thought I was just being difficult till I made my trainer sit in the current one, and then she agreed with me that it was impossible on him, even though it fits him well. You just cannot get your leg on properly as the blocks are so big, and he is so little....

I have struggled on with it but dont think it does either of us any favours and I ride him alot better in my single flap event saddle where I can actually use my silly short legs!

Have been looking a various saddles, tried the albion SLK on him but still feels very bulky, cannot afford a nice single flap devoucoux, and really needs to get this sorted. Have been told that prestige dressage saddles are much less bulky, and so wondered what people thought of them? Problem is he has a big bouncy trot so I need something that holds me in but nothing that is bulky if that makes sense!

Any ideas?

Thanks

I don't like saddles with big blocks either. I just bought a KN saddle, it is very comfortable and has subtle blocks.

I LOVE my prestige - I am a showjumper who is 5ft and ride really short - this saddle actually made me lengthen but i could still ride !!!

I had a jumping saddle first loved that then tried the dressage

my mare is a bit loopy and bouncy (she is tigger actually) !!

As soon as i tried it i loved it fitted perfectly and i just sank right in there !!

mine is the optimax it was aroudn £1600 (but worth it) there is a close contact one but that is bega bucks x

I've just had Nicola McGivern sing the praises of Prestige saddles to me! She obviously thinks they are the best thing since sliced bread. They are not bulky but do have a knee roll. I've sat in one, and it was lovely.

Hmmm, how about the Albion Style... I don't know whether they make them any more but they have non existant knee blocks and fit really close to the horse. I had one for Grace a while ago but sold it unfortunately because it no longer fitted her

Thankyou - thats really helpful!

Do you find it is less bulky than your albion style saddles?

I am going to try and pursuade my saddle fitter to get one in for me to try I think

I hated the albion - it made me want to ride long but i couldnt was all over the place !!!

I just knew instantly when i tried the prestige that it was right - my horse instantly relaxed to and worked better xx

What about a Passier type saddle? They have smaller blocks and I used to love mine (think it was a Grand Gilbert). But depending on your budget, there's a Butet single flap dressage saddle on Ebay at the mo that's very cheapy! Well for Butet anyway!

I have the Optimax . I bought it because my son and trainer both loved the jumping saddles and a friend raved about her Prestige dressage. Because of this hoorrid weather i have only had it fitted and sat in it (feels lovely) but not had a good ride yet. The tree can be heated up and altered as it is man made so its good in that way.

I've got one, I bought it 2nd hand on EBay for £150

I am actually going to ride in it tonight as I am fed up of my horse pulling me out of the saddle in canter, which she can do to me in my jumping saddle. The blocks on it aren't massive and I like it better than my sisters albion.

That was a bit hard admitting that I do own a dressage saddle

I have the Prestige Optimax dressage saddle- its fab. I have ridden in an Albion SLK, KN, Ideal and Isabelle Werth and the Optimax is by far the nicest to sit in. I paid £650 for mine second hand but its like new.
