Hi everyone,
Could i ask for some advice please. Sorry if this has been asked before — I did try searching first but couldn’t see anything (although that might just be me :) ).
I’ve recently had my saddle refitted and ended up with a second‑hand Prestige, which is lovely but It’s probably far too nice a saddle for what I do as a novice, but its a perfect fit for my horse which is the most important.

This might be a silly question, but the Prestige cleaning and care products are quite expensive, and with the cost of living (and possible job cuts at my work this year), I’d really rather not spend £70 on their set if I don’t absolutely have to. I’d much rather put that money towards feed and other care for my horse.

Has anyone used other leather care brands on a Prestige saddle with good results? I used to use Carr & Day & Martin on my previous tack, but I was advised not to use it on this saddle.

Would love to hear what others have used and how you got on. Thank you.

I’ve tried all kinds of products but just started using this stuff .. It put a really nice finish on my saddle. It’s not a bad price at all either at £13.99. Also you do know that you cannot possibly have a saddle that is too nice don’t you?! Just enjoy it , you and your horse 😀

And this is yet another example of a company making eye watering profits from their brand name....£70?!!! 😡

As @Annagain has already stated, leather is leather, and there are plenty of good quality products available to clean and condition tack. I would personally avoid anything containing glycerine.

If you don't mind me asking, why were you advised not to use Carr, Day and Martin saddle soap?

I know — £70 for the two products really surprised me. I want to keep my tack in good condition and make sure everything is safe for me and my horse, but I was a bit taken aback when I saw the price, especially when there are so many more affordable options out there. Thank you as well for the advice about avoiding glycerine.

Apologies on the CDM products — I meant the 1‑step and 2‑step sprays. When I was leaving the store, another customer who competes a lot was admiring the saddle (she also uses Prestige saddle) and she told me not to use those sprays on that type of leather. I should have asked her to explain, but I was in a rush to get home and ride, and because the saddler hadn’t mentioned anything, I didn’t want to look silly by asking. It’s daft, I know, but my confidence just vanished for a moment. I panicked thinking it was something I should already know.

I have had a prestige for nearly 15 years, its lucky if it gets a clean once a year! The saddle is never too good if it fits you both, regardless of what you do. A lot of their saddles are calf skin so softer leather which might be why they said to avoid the 2 step routine.
I used the prestige stuff as it came with it but i use Renapur now and it works a treat. I wouldnt bother with any saddle soap etc, just wipe it down, get and dirt off and stick some conditioner on.

I've just had a look at these, and 'Step 2' contains glycerin - so that could be why you were advised not to use it.

I have always used good old fashioned saddle soap in a tin on my tack. There have also been recommendations for @cremedemonthe home made leather conditioner on here. Whilst I haven't tried it personally, everyone who has tried it says it is amazing stuff - so there's another option for you.
