HHO, Horse and hound, supposedly the big pro hunt magazine.

But on it's forum, no one is interested in the fact our PM has said tonight he thinks the ban is a load of b****cks.

Everyone is more interested in how fat riders are, sizes of nosebands or bloody mooncups for gods sake.

GRRRRRRR!

If this is your preferred equestrian sport then there is a whole section on this forum to do with hunting! That would tend to be why hunting doesn't get discussed in new lounge!

I agree, thats what I thought the hunting section was for, & FWIW what happened to the mass destruction of hounds & horses that was going to happen when the ban came in? It just didn't did it, I thought we were all going to be over run with mange ridden foxes, but that hasn't happened either. Hunts account for such a low percentage of foxes killed I can't believe they can claim to be an effective way of controlling them, why don't they just admit they like galloping about chasing things? ....... Waits to get shot down...

Agree with others, PM is an arse, he will say anything to get good press then backtracks at a later date. I'm not personally interested in hunting. What does the hunting section of this forum have to say about it? I think New Lounge is a more 'general horsey talk' area.

I agree too. Its also a section that I rarely go on because I'm not interested. It would be interesting what percentage of horsey people do hunt - not that many probably.

And the fact that you posted the thread at midnight on a Sunday night would perhaps be a reason that there weren't loads of replies immediately..

Agree with this. I'm not interested either, and nor are any of the horsey people I know. OP you might get more response if you ask this question in the hunting section.

Honestly, everyone knows the ban is a joke - even people who don't hunt, don't really care and those who oppose hunting pretty well accept that. Maybe nobody's interested because it just isn't big news that Conservative PM doesn't think it's the best thing since sliced bread

I used to care, I used to care a lot! I was so pleased when the ban was put in place...then I realised it didn't stop anyone, in fact I think I know more people that hunt now, than I did before the ban.
Now, I just can't even think of it as a law. I'd rather they just lifted the ban and be done with it. If they're going to make a law, enforce it!! If not, don't bother making it a law, it's stupid.

Well, I watched Countryfile *smug smilie* (for a change, I don't usually bother these days as I feel it's now aimed at townies, not farmers).

FWIW I agree with what the PM said.

Yes, agree. So chill out, it's up to people what they want to talk about. If you want to discuss it then start a thread without sniping at other posters.

tbh...our PM is a load of b****cks :) so dont really give a flying ****** what he says. :)

:D :D :D

I'm also not interested in hunting - at all. I wouldn't use this forum if it were full of hunting talk. That's why I never use the specific section it has

The ban hasn't changed anything in my opinion we still have a hunt every week in our area and they still get at least two foxes each time. I am anti hunting but don't judge people who go out with the hunt. There is a place for hunting discussions and it is in the hunting forum. H&H isn't just about hunting it's about showing, jumping, dressage all aspects of the sport, and the forum is a place where people can ask questions and opinions of others with varying levels of experience of horses. :)

He's not my PM, and the ban doesn't concern me one way or the other

(I don't live in the UK)

And just because I own a horse, read H&H and use this message board doesn't mean I have anything to do with hunting, and I believe I'm correct in saying a lot of members of this board are of the non-hunting fraternity

I support hunting, and yes the ban did make a change IMO.

before the ban there was an awful lot of
Who can drink the most, who can jump the biggest hedge, who can jump the most... now I can see that the horse lovers are out there- the egos' seem to have disappeared, or they've been reined in due to the PR.

I think the ban serves a purpose- though not the one it intended to!

I just wish the hunts would admit they do it for fun, and not for effectiveness!

Bit of a sweepings statement. How did you arrive at that? I AM pro! so are the vast majority of equine people that I know. Doesnt mean that I automatically assume all equine people are in favour. The hunting forum is lively and highly populated - and people who choose to post, read there are just as much a forum member as you are!!

Actually, that is not quite right. It has one of the lowest thread and post counts on the forum. If HHO catered only for the hunting faternity,it would be a very quiet place here.

Quite honestly, for most people the economic crisis is far more relevant than a vote on the hunting ban. With rising hay prices, vet fees and fuel costs, actually affording to keep the horses we have is a more major concern at the moment.

Are you flaming me just for the fun of it, or to try to get a rise out of me because you think I'm a sab?

You only need to look at the posts about hunting to realise that there are non hunters on here.

Correct! Also I think the hunt gave horse riding a snobby reputation as a preserve of the rich etc. Shame as I own a muddy monster and am not posh either. But I hear so many say its so humane but then they dont see the fox killed, suppose out of sight out of mind!

Silly post isnt it?
