Hello, my WB Mare is 21 years young, still loving life and not really showing any signs of slowing down. We went barefoot last year as her hoof quality is poor, and she has coped remarkably well. We use front boots on some rides. My question is, has anyone given their older horse cartrophen as a preventative? I have no doubt at 21 there is a touch of arthritis there, she is a little stiff coming out of her stable but loosens up and is her normal elevated flicky toe self! I spoke to a vet last year who just told me to give her a joint supplement which i was doing (Best Flex HA) but having stopped i have noticed no difference, I just want to do the best for her, a different vet is coming out to the yard this week so i have booked on the visit to have the discussion but just wondered if anyone had any experience. We hack and school, bit of jumping but no real pressure on her to massively perform, she owes me nothing
