Can anyone help me put a price on a youngster that I part own with my friend.

She is an Iron Grey Filly to make a good 16.2HH, she is 2 in July. We have known her since birth. She is 3/4TB x Shire, has nice confirmation and going to make a substantial mare.

We bought her to help her breeder out, she was bred to event and and is by my friends stallion - hence why we bougt her, but we have lots going on and we are struggling for time to do her justice.

Therefore we have discussed selling her, we don't really know how to value her and would be interested in sending her somewhere to be sold on our behalf - any recommendations we are in Yorkshire.

My first thought is that if she's going to be a substantial mare is she going to be too heavy to event?

Price wise difficult to say without knowing her breeding / who she is registered with. A pic would also help

When I say substantial I dont mean 'cart horse' she is 3/4 TB and is an athletic looking mare. She stands at 16HH now and is 2 in July so she is going to be a big girl.

Her Dad is Tanodaman, TB by Grey Desire who was evented a couple of years ago with sucess.

She isnt registered with anyone at the moment other than a bog standard passport. She was a random purchase that we made last summer to help out the old boy who bred her who is in our village.

I guesstimate around £1500. Doubt a dealer would take her, you would need to sell privately

! I just didn't word my original post very well.

Those figures are in the region of what we were thinking for her. To be honest money isnt the issue as we would really love to see her out doing something - so we would consider a loan to the right people. She is a nice easy mare and has a fab temperament.

In terms of sending her to be sold we were thinking of maybe an eventing yard rather than just a dealers yard - I don't know ?

How about a good sports horse sale. It may be a bit far from you but Malvern hold a sports horse sale in September, you get alot of people there looking for quality youngstock. Re price, depending on conformation between 1.2K and 1.8K

Yes, I go practically every year, bought a yearling there, 5yrs ago, who is now out eventing. I have also sold one there. Its an upmarket sale, which is a show as well. So you get alot of serious buyers there and prices are usually pretty good. You should be able to find out all about it from the Brightwells web page
