Our pony is rapidly becoming outgrown and wondered if you lovely lot would give me some idea on price? It’s years since I’ve sold a horse, and never a kids pony before!

12hh approx (will measure!)
15yrs old Welsh A x B on green passport, gelding, fine build and from showing lines, though not a top class show prospect.
Good to handle by children, easy to do, a good egg generally!
Great on the lead rein and ride and lead, good in traffic, loads, travels. Never sick or sorry. Same home 7 years.

Has taken my son off the lead rein, though is quite forward (though kind!) so perhaps more of a 1.5 type pony?

Limited mileage- we haven’t done shows or pony club, so he’s inexperienced there, we have mainly just hacked….so older and sensible, but wouldn’t be a school master.

Ideas?! Thanks 🙏

I feel as those pony prices are wildly differing at the moment so I think it's quite hard to price these days! If he hacks quietly but hasn't been out and about then I would expect around the £3500 mark. I would be interested to see what everyone else thinks though!

Yes, I’ve seen some crazy prices. The right buyer is obviously my priority, but I want to get a reasonable idea!

At least 5k! Pony prices are nuts! We’d be interested if he was a hand bigger! We are looking for 13/13.2hh for a 1.5 pony and are expecting to pay around 8k for something that has done a fair bit of PC, if it was very good at it then well over 10k but we don’t need anything flashy! 5k for yours x

Is it worth getting him out to some shows and rallies? It would increase his price hugely and if he's fairly sensible then there's a good chance he wouldn't be bothered by it. Has he done anything before you got him?

Lack of time and rider now being a bit on the big side probably prohibit getting him out and about, though I had considered it.

LR only is currently selling at about £1.5k - more if successful competitively. I saw one that had been out and about with pics of rosettes etc for £2.5k when looking at prices the other week. I have seen lots start higher this autumn/winter and drop to about £1.5k before selling.

I’m going to say 2-2.5k max and I have done a lot of pony hunting for 1st/2nd ponies over the last few years. To explain why I don’t think he’s worth more - he’s older, he hasn’t got experience of shows / PC and he sounds like he’s going to be too forward off the lead for most beginner children.

if you can get him out doing a bit then that will increase the price.

If a good home is a genuine concern then I would be advertising now for 1.75 or max 2. If you can do a bit and wait until Easter then 2.5.

Yes, no huge rush to sell. I could do with him losing his winter coat for some reasonable photos too!! 😝 he’s definitely not worth much as a muddy yak!
