Just looking for thoughts on what I would expect to pay for the following (in the South East):

- about 14 - 14.2hh
- carry 11 stone rider comfortably
- capable of nice work in school (no problem if a bit green, but don't want anything spoilt)
- level-headed, safe hack alone/company especially farm machinery, cattle, shooting
- non-spooky, forward going but not silly
- snaffle mouth - no 'need' of gadgets
- pick-up/put down type
- nice looking/good conformation- ideally 10-16 yrs without health/soundness issues

That's IF it could be found :-)

thanks in advance.

I have a 4yr one of them. 14.3 coloured 'sports' cob (bit more leggy and athletic). He's not for sale (sorry) but he ticks every single one of those boxes. AMAZING to hack (alone and in company), forward going and enthusiastic but will just stand and eat grass if his friends all gallop off without him. Gallops in stubble fields in just a headcollar. Green in the school due to his age and lack of facilities but learns quickly. Jumps anything you aim him at (up to about 2'6 at the moment: he's not done much due to his age) Would totally trust him with anything or anyone, inc tiny tots. Takes my totally novice mum out hacking on him and would trust him to take her out by himself.

He's also nice looking, moves well and well marked. And he's mine :D

I'd be asking about £3000 for him at the moment, due to the time of year and his lack of experience. More if he turns out to be be very good at dressage or jumping.

Don't rule out a horse because of it's young age. I would trust Piper with anyone and anything and he's only 4yrs old. My friends 10yr old can't be trusted at all.

i sold my cob for just under 4k as you wanted, he was a star he came to me with a few minor issues, wasnt keen on big traffic, and was a sod to load but i worked with him and all was fab.

even 5 year old kids could ride him off lead rein in the field.. bare back

any way he went to a much older couple in the end who adored him and felt they were lucky to of found him. I did let them have a trial aswell to ensure he was as good as i said.

he also jumped anything, and i showed him at a decent level. he flew a 5 stage vetting.

Fany is most of the things you want. Certainly bombproof. She is surprising active and can be forward going. I paid £2500 for her but she had only been lightly backed. She has now been ridden away and is going nicely, although not a novice ride due to being a bit stubborn. Excellent confo- won a lot of championships in Belgium.IF she were for sale probably looking at £3000 for her, she is very well bred and is a weight carrier. Easy to do, lives on fresh air almost and is barefoot. Will live in or out but prefers her stable at nights in winter. But most importantly for me she is as bombproof a horse as you will ever meet, she has a very sweet and kind nature, not at all mareish and she is the most sociable horse, she gets on with all other horses, geldings/ mares or mixed herds.
Here she is:

Sounds like you might need a New Forest, I paid about £3k for mine 4 years ago he was only 5 at the time though and he jumps like a stag and had done well at the breed show as a youngster.

If you don't require a show quality or competitive pony then I would say you should not need to pay more than £3,500 for what you are looking for.

I agree NFED has nice ponies advertised.

I just sold one for 3500, traditional, safe as houses, not fully schooled, not done any jumping but made a novice feel safe so he sold to first person to view
