This is our first year of making hay and we will be having our hay field cut and baled as soon as the weather permits (have found a lovely man to cut, turn, bale).

We expect to have approx 400 surplus small bales of hay and having had a look at some friends hay done by the same man the bales are nice and heavy.

We don't have any storage for the hay and are going to advertise it for sale in the local paper this week in the hope that people will come with their trailers and take it away!

What price are people paying for hay from the field? We were thinking of selling it for £1.75 per bale.

I also have some of last years hay approx 50 spare (bought in last autumn) which has been stored on pallets under canvas and is dry, still looks and smells great and isn't dusty. I am not sure what to ask per bale for this either.

Obviously we would like to get a good price for the hay but need it gone quickly!

i'm in cornwall and i saw some advertised for £1.50 a bale off the field. for the last years stuff £1 a bale

If it is good quality and made right I would think about £1.75 to £2.00 per bale. It will fetch more if it is a bad year and is difficult to make good hay.

I will be paying £2 per bale for mine when I take it off my suppliers field. And I have paid the same for last years hay before now.

where are you all?! ours is more like £3 or £4 a bale! but then it is good stuff....possibly to good for mine and the ones i help with on our yard!

I'VE JUST SOLD SOME OF MY SURPLUS OF LAST YEARS CROP (WEST YORKSHIRE) AT £3 A BALE & THE BUYERS WERE PLEASED THAT THEY WERE GOOD BIG BALES & NICE QUALITY

STILL HAVE SOME IF ANYONE NEEDS ANY

I just paid £1.90/bale delivered, straight from the field. Paid £1.80/bale for same hay last year but quite validly the chap who makes/delivers it said the dramatic increase in diesel costs has meant he's had to add on the extra 10p/bale this year. It's lovely hay and I'm happy to pay the bit extra.
