Price of private lessons

Ok riding school near me, went to check cost of private lessons today,

for a 40min private lesson.......... £45

That to me seems a lot! there is no indoor school, I am not sure what the standard of teaching is etc, but was just wondering what other people thought of this cost?
 
ye, see my lessons back home on good standard horses with an indoor or outdoor option, really good quality teaching is £37!

Is this private lessons on your own horses, or at a riding school on their horses?

I pay £20 for a good hours lesson on my own horse (usually runs over an hour as well)!
 
That seems pretty steep to me. I pay £25 on my own horse at my own yard for an hour which normally runs to about an hour an a half. Instructor is fab.
 
I pay £25 on my own horse for half an hour that usually runs into 45mins, my teacher comes to me. Very reasonable for her level of expertise!

Riding school I used to go to is £20 for half an hour private lesson.
 
Where abouts are you Lucy_Nottingham? a really good school near me charges £40 for a 40 minute private lesson on one of their schoolmasters. Very good horses and the instructors are also very good so it is worth it IMO. The ballpark figure for an hours private lesson with a good instructor on your own horse anywhere around here is £30.
 
when i worked at a riding school in sussex, this is 2 years ago now, private lessons where so expensive £45 for 45mins, but we had 2 indoor schools, 1 outdoor, outdoor jumping field and xc course, as well as good horses and good teachers

however still alot of money!!
 
silkyunicorn, is that Welland? If so agree, they are very good, or were a few years ago at least!

Mine at uni (partly sibsidised by union) are £14 for an hour with up to 4 people. Individual lessons are pushing £30 for the hour and the same for hacks

At home - £23 for half hour private lesson
 
definitley sounds a lot to me. i pay £18 for a 45 min private lesson with my YM who competes at BD Medium Advanced and then once a month a 45 min private lesson with Paul Hayler (BRILLIANT Instructor can't reccommend him enough) for £45 wwhich I think is very good considering he come to our yard from Essex (best part of 45 min drive) and the level of tuition he provides.
 
I'm sorry but my geography is letting me down - Long Eaton is between Derby and Nottingham isn't it? If you have a car I would suggest that give Vale View a try - they are about 30 mins from Nottingham. They have very good schoolmasters and the instructors are good too - do both dressage and SJ. Is 40 mins and £40 - expensive yes, good yes and you learn loads. I guess it really depends on what you want the lessons for - to improve and learn more on well schooled horses or just to keep riding. If its the former I would pay the extra and go as and when I could afford it if its the latter I would look for somewhere closer and cheaper or look at finding work in a yard. How much do vale view charge?
I want to improve still but also want to just continue doing the things I CAN do (so not deteriorate!)
I am willing to pay between 20-30 pounds for a private lesson, but I think getting to £40 not with a highly competition training professional seems a bit much........

but maybe I am just not used to the cost of riding in this region (I am from bolton and ride near chorley when not at uni!)
 
Vale View are competition training professionals - hence the good quality schoolmasters. I rode a fabulous Grade B showjumper when I had some lessons there and learned so much from them. It is the going rate for lessons around here and are of a better quality (and better horses) than most IMO. I used to pay £25 for 45mins in an individual lesson which normally ran to an hour. I then went to a different RS and me and a friend (she was on her own horse, I was on a RS horse) got an hours lesson together for £23. And the instructor is fab, he has taught me loads. Unfortunately as I no longer work full time I can't afford it.
 
At Ingliston EC in Bishopton you pay £40 for 45 minutes or £32 for 30 minutes on a school horse or £30 for 30 minutes £40 for an hour on your own horse.

My RC trainers charge £36 for 45 minutes but that is subsidised by the club.
 
I pay £20/hour for my flat instructor (trained under Richard Davison) and £20/hour for my jump instructor (passed her BSJA exams with Di Lampard as examiner).
 
How about Bunny Hill Top? Think they're priced around the same as vale view. To be honest round these parts £30-40 is the average going rate for a private lessons with a good standard of instructor (know someone whose had sam and he's good).

Blimey that is a lot! Don't know where you went, I'm in the area and can't think of anywhere that expensive! Have payed £37 for an hour private, but moving to a place that is £18 for an hour or £25 with another instructor.
