A poster on here has reminded me about our foolish pride sometimes! Some time ago now I'd just completed 10 mile fun ride on my new mare, cruised round, did all the jumps and was feeling rather full of myself....oh dear. The last jump of the day was back into the area where the start of the ride was. There was a band playing, loads of people, boy scouts and bunting..you get the picture. The horse in front of me refused, 'out of my way' I exclaimed, 'coming through', the epitome of arrogance.... The rider who's horse refused gave me (rightly deserved) evil stare....Off we went, my mare pecked on landing and I fell off. I was then surrounded by boy scouts and ambulance people to help, ( I was fine..just massively embarrassed ) and the expression on the riders face of the refusing horse was deep satisfaction as he soared over the jump and cantered by... Served me right! So come on, lets have your pride before a fall stories.

Horses always have some way to bring us to our senses.

My mare 'always' stands on the yard without being tied - I can leave her there to go and fetch the tack and she is 'always' exactly where I left her when I return. Yesterday she was standing as usual, and someone commented how good she is. Of course instead of saying nothing I launched into a description of what a paragon of virtue she is, the pony who could never possibly put a foot wrong, how she would never dream of moving from where I left her and how lucky I was to have her. I then turned my back for 5 seconds and she promptly took herself back to the paddock still wearing her saddle. I was very red faced as I trudged to the furthest corner to retrieve her!
