My daughter went to a very prestigous public school. Didn't get a single GCSE and got expelled at 15.
True, she can read Latin and is good at mathematics and punctuation, but her association with the 'Tinks' at the local livery yard where I kept her pony( if only I d known, - thats working mothers for you - always the last to know!!!) had far more influence on her intellectual development. Me,? Oh from a middle class background, parents both teachers, went to the local Secondary modern, got 9 GCEs a BSc (Hons) and an MSc!
The school you attend is really a very small part of where you get your education from, ultimately.
I have been to private schools from the age of 5. Wouldnt change it for the world and although I used to moan about it when I was younger, I am so appreciative to my parents for sending me to one.
i have been going to a private school from the age of 5 as well, and I love it! the teachers are great, and very helpful with exams and stuff like that. but, i have several friends who go to the local state school and also love it. I think it purely depends on how people decide to spend their money, and on the child.
I didn't mean it like that - I'm sorry, I just thought you might be interested in the debate that is going on ... you post where ever you want to!......
