My 3 year old lab gets fed a small cup of Autarky in the morning and 1 pack of Prize Choice meat along with a hanful of dry mixer in the evening. He seems to thrive on this and looks well with a bright eye and shiney coat.

I am getting a lab puppy at the end of April (not born yet!!) and I am looking at feeds for it. I am quite involved with the bitch and to some extent will get a say in what the puppies are weaned onto, so my question is, is Prize Choice a suitable puppy food (am a bit corncered about if it will be balanced enough) if not then what would you recommend?

I am afraid I don;t know what prize choice is, but from what I was told when I got my border collie puppy was that to wean them onto a complete diet was better than trying to find the right balance for them between kibble and meat...... just for ease of ensuring correct nutrient intake.....
don't know if this helps any! sorry...

If you mean prize choice the raw meat then yes its fine for puppies. However if it forms at least half of his diet you will need to vary his food. Raw feeding is a master art in itself and dogs need to have a balanced diet of muscle meat, bones and offal. Raw prize choice should not be mixed with dry food as dogs digest them at different rates and it can cause them to be ill. If you want more info on raw feeding pm me but you really need to do it properly if your thinking about it.

The odd pack of prize choice here and there wont do any harm though. If he is getting enough of his dry food he should get his nutrients from that

Yes thats the one. My 3 year old currently has dry food in the morning which he picks at over the day and then a pack of prize choice in the evening with either left over veg or a handful of mixer biscuits. He seems quite well on this combo. Think i'll give the puppy a complete feed until I can give him the same adult ration as my current dog. At least I know he / she will get everythig they need!!
Puppies are due today - no signs yet though!!!
