TB coming back into work after 5months off due to lameness in hooves and needing to grow heel as opposed to toe.
Gotten so far: from imprint shoes, to glu shus, to glue on aluminiums and no longer lame. Hoof looking much more healthy, albeit STILL not a great deal of heel on there.

Have had him on: biotin, rosehips, brewers yeast, linseed and magnesium oxide for hoof growth and general wellbeing.

Now running out of insurance money & he keeps throwing the glue on aluminiums (I believe due to the glue wearing off after 4/5weeks as now in light work as well as turnout). So we really need to get as much hoof on there as possible and I'm willing to try EVERYTHING...

So the two things I've heard good about is Progressive Earth's Pro Hoof & Farriers Formula along with jelly (???)

PLEASE HELP!!

Have you thought about contacting Rockley Farm? A friend of mine did recently and they were very kind about giving advice over the phone.
What exactly are you feeding him now?
I did a lot of reading a year or so ago and opted for Pro Hoof, but to be honest I can't remember all the in's and out's of why. Duh...

I've contacted Rockley who gave me a little advice but were unable to give me too much due to having not seen by boy. And sending him away is just not doable due to costs - I simply don't have the funds as much as I'd love to :(

He is on unlimited hay/haylage mix trickle fed. And he has the above supplements in a high-fibre & speedibeet mash once per day.

I have one TB on farriers formula and it's definatly increased the amount of foot he grows and it's thickness.
I have two on pro hoof they have increased growth verses my fourth who is just on a general purpose supplement the fastest growing feet are definatly the TBs and his where by far the worse.
The pro hoof of does contain stuff that's not in farriers formula such as stuff for gut health but I am really impressed with the increased growth from the farriers formula the farrier commented on it last time he was shod ( only his second set he's been bf for a year and has just started back in shoes)
I am pretty sure the pro hoof has increased the amount of growth but with the farriers formula you can't not miss it.
Not sure what you mean by jelly but I think people used to give jelly cubes to horse because it was made with gelatin but I don't think it is now since the mad cow thing , is that what you meanlt ?

I am so tired with it this is good to hear about your TB - so thanks for replying!! It's easy to get depressed as we've come so far, but it's still plaguing us... He's only just 5yo and such a kind person so I simply cannot give up!!
So one vote each for the pro hoof vs FF. Hmmmm...
Yeh, jelly was suggested to me by a friend who said since feeding it she's seen such a huge improvement in her horses feet and he has grown mane he never had before, so just throwing ideas around... As I say, willing to try absolutely anything!!

My TB arrived as a five year old he had all the issues you read about all the time he had a year BF his feet are transformed my only regret is that I did not start the farriers formula earlier he was six months into BF I started it ,feeding it was our turning point .
I know exactly how you feel mine is sweetest person who just wants people to be kind to him watching him blossom is so rewarding.

I am using pro hoof and am very happy with it. L is now happy bare in hand on all surfaces, and virtually ok on all surfaces ridden (just careful on really stoney ground).

Forage plus is worth considering too as is pro balance +

Hello, what has your vet diagnosed as the problem with his hooves. What else are you feeding and have you thought about going barefoot and using boots and pads. It's taken my horse 5 and half months barefoot to become fully sound. My problems all started in august, we did the remidal shoeing until December and then I went down the barefoot root and he is now sound in all feet. Previously this horse was 6/10 lame, lame in three legs and he was on 4 bute a day. I rehabbed him myself with lots of advice from members on this forum as like you Rockley
wasn't an option. I use pro hoof and I am pleased with the results but I opted for this as during the lameness we also had to treat him with gastro guard and I know pro hoof has yeasac in it for the gut. Good luck

Hoof is made of keratin which is a protein. Granted that the protein in hoof uses a lot of minerals to help form it's shape, quality and strength.

Ensuring a good supply of protein as the main source for hoof growth should be the priority or else any minerals you are feeding just goes directly through the waste process without being used for anything other than to keep the liver busy.

The other vital ingredient is stimulation... it sounds as if the horse is not stimulating the heels as much as the toes hence the skewed growth pattern. Toe first landing will contribute a large amount of toe-growth versus heel-growth. The hoof works on a demand=supply basis.

So, in short, I don't believe it is a lack of minerals that is causing your immediate problem (all these brands are much of a muchness). As you say yourself, growth is not a problem, it is the location of growth. So, you need to think about stimulating growth where you need it.

I have my lot on Pro Balance Plus from Prigressive earth and my farrier has noticed a big difference.

My not try boots and pads too if he is going through the glue? My boy where's is for turn out and ridden work.

I don't think glue on shoes are satisfactory unless you are prepared to manage the horse for them.
I too think that hoof pro, linseed, good quality forage and management for feet, is required: by which i mean exercise as appropriate.. all soft surfaces are not ideal, to my mind walking on tarmac roads 30 mins per day barefoot is the ideal.
I prefer to stable overnight after heavy rain if possible to allow hooves to dry out and rest him.
