Pro Hoof - what added extras do you need?

I have read that quite a few of you add extras into feed such as MagOx, Brewers Yeast, Micronised Linseed and Yea Sacc. Are these on top of Pro Hoof or whatever supplement you feed too?

As I've posted, pony is having shoes off so want to give her every chance of getting some lovely new feet.

Should I be adding the above extras?

Pony will hardly need any feed (if any) during the summer as she is a very good doer if she's in light work (which I'm hoping she will be once she's had a chance to get used to having no shoes on). I see that the linseed is good for weight gain which she doesn't need but great for feet. How much would she need to be fed to give her all the goodness but not gain any weight? She is a 15hh lightweight cob. I am intending to give her a handful of Purabeet to add the Pro Hoof to and any other supplement that she might have.

Sorry for all the questions but I really want to get this right.

Yes micronised linseed needs to be fed as well as pro hoof, you should also add salt.

You might get away with adding nothing else but I have started adding magnesium. It contains Yea Sacc so you shouldn't need that or brewers yeast unless you have a problem and decide you need a higher quantity.

Pro Hoof alone should be sufficient - it contains yeast (yea sacc) and Mag Ox. Some people add more mag ox if their horses show signs of footiness from grass, but you won't know that until you get the shoes off :).

Micronised linseed is good for the omega oils which can be lacking if you have to really restrict access to grass. For a good doer I wouldn't feed more than 100g... you may need to vary it according to workload ime.

I thought Pro Hoof had MagOx in it already?

Micronised Linseed I haven't started using it yet but will give a 1/4 mug full in summer and 1/2 in winter, I will up it in summer if needs be. Just need to see how he goes on it :) (pony is a very good doer as well)

I don't feed Yea Sacc as pony shows no signs of any gut problems (apart from it being to big sometimes :D) and that it benifits older horses/ponies best.

Hope that helps a little but there will be better people asnwering soon than me, I only know a small amount at the min and I'm still learning about it all :)

Good luck

Thanks everyone for advice.

I think I'll get some MagOx just in case but will only feed it if needs be.

M.linseed - I will def. get some asap.

Might as well wait and see what happens when shoes come off before buying up entire equine health food shops!!
