I have bought this picture. It was our opening meet.....somewhat early as I believe most people still have autumn hunting.

I got the chance to wear my "new" Ebay Mears Hunt coat. :))))

Copy and paste the urls. I have bought the second one.

Strangely it all looks far more controlled than I remember at the time. I'm pretty sure there was some serious braking going on at the time. lol

Awesome pics! I can see you are braking...but that's cos I can totally identify with the situation. If you look, her body is very downhill.

Having said that...you don't look anywhere NEAR as out of control as I was today! I was spectacular! At one point, miles in front and circling like a looney!

I still think the pics are fab and you look great together. And horse is blooming lovely :)

Oh dear God Skewby....I just read your last reply to my other thread. Is it wrong that I'm laughing out loud at it now? :)))))

I bet you are too though! That's the thing, I was laughing about P as soon as I was back to the trailer......but during the hunt meet I was about ready to cry at one point!

Oh yes, she's built very downhill indeed. Proper cob type. All front end power, as my hubby would say to pull a cart! *Bad hubby, even if truthful*

Your antics have tickled me. I am not alone! I am going out this weekend in Myler MB42.....as they suggest it for my situation. We'll see! I won't pin my hopes on something that just looks like a snaffle, albeit a snaffle with slots and hooks!

How long are your arms today?

Hi Patches, I'm so glad you laughed! Well, my knuckles are grazing the floor and my entire body is stiff as a board!!!

It's funny isn't it, at times I thought "dear God I can't do this" but on the whole I didn't feel unsafe on him.

The funniest bit was when we all dispersed, we were on a road. I hadn't a clue where I was and before I could ask someone which way my lorry was, he buggered off down the road in canter. Tanked straight past a lovely man who'd tried to help me earlier in the day, who just said "change its bridle!" and towards a lone huntsman who turned round when he heard the hooves and me saying "you B*STARD! Whoa!" and invited me to use his horse's bottom to stop. Oh the shame!!! But you're right, it is funny with hindsight lol!!!

I am sure we will get it sorted...eventually...lol! Has your girl hunted much? Mine hasn't and I'm clinging to the hope he'll just calm down...;)

Nope...P has never hunted before. She's 11.

We've been out a total of four times so far. Each time in a new (make that stronger) bit and each time we've had less control! Go figure that one?

I am wondering myself whether it's just cockiness and whether she'll get over the buzz of it and settle down. When we have the "checks" she stands there physically shaking with excitement/adrenalin. Silly girl.

Eeeep! Your experience does sound far more hairy than mine. With a bit of luck we won't graduate into the "school of Skewby" antics. :))

I have these visions of your horse STILL trying to canter THROUGH the hunstman's horse he's used as a stop! Oh the shame indeed.

We haven't yet overtaken the Master of the Hounds or the Whipper in. We have circled a bit around the Field Master, but he just finds it amusing....on his rock steady mare who we all would give our right arm for!

There's something in that you know... Ron is 14 and has hunted all his life so far as I know. I think he was born in the hunting field the way he carries on.
At the start of the season he is a fool. he thinks about getting in (sorry, self loading into) the trailer and is lathered, he shakes, he can't stand still (except at the meet, and only if I'm not holding port), and he can barely contain himself out of a walk in a double bridle...

we start with him only just fit to do a couple of hours, and we hunt him as hard as we can get away with (*mean mummy!) until Christmas. By the time new year is out of the way he's settled enough to almost hunt in a snaffle.

As OH doesn't (can't legally) drive with the trailer on, he either gets a lift to midweek meets, or he can hack to about a third of midweek meets. Some of these hacks are best part of an hour in walk. He says the best days hunting are days where he's hacked over so Ron is settled, and much calmer.
