Do mares come in season every month?? I heard that it depends on the time of year, is this true??

Sorry i have only ever had geldings until recently so never really paid that much attention LOL.

And also for the last couple of months Senza has become very sensative when in season to the point where on some occassions she has been quite naughty by broncing, spooking etc. Is there anything i can give her to make her a bit more comfortable when she is in season??

Having always owned mares, and now own a gelding(Hate willy cleaning!)......I had a TB mare and in 12 years of owning her was only aware of her season a few times, squirting and winking displayed...apart from that would have never been aware, as she was always the same all year round...again cycles vary in each mare......could try 'Stroppy Mare' had a friend who got good results from it.........But,did end up putting the mare into foal on vet's advise!

I thought that too but wanted to make sure that her tantrums coinsided with her being in season!! Its only really been apparent over the last 3 months.

So how often would they have them through the winter months?

Well i have had her over a year and usually you cant tell but the last 3 months she has been a nightmare. Flinches when you put the saddle on, gets very sensative when grooming above her womb area (if that makes sense LOL), broncs when you lead her out of the stable with her saddle on and gets very spooky!!

I dont want to feed her something all year round just when she is in season to make her more comfortable

If she has suddenly changed temperment like that when in season to what she was before, I would get the vet to check her out, she could have a problem with her ovaries

Oh no i'm worried now!!! She doesn't seem unhappy in herself and she does calm down once she is working she just seems quite uncomfortable at first so maybe there is a problem then

She has only just turned 5yo though so i just put it down to her body changing and maturing like ours do

My 5 year old I've just had 3 months but she is very different in season - just for about 3/4 days each time. She is bargey in the stable and will sometimes try to kick out sideways when fastening her rug at the back or trying to pick out her back feet. She doesn't spook more but can be hard to shift and that tends to be the only time I need to use my crop as a back up to my leg. I've got her full time on Stroppy Mare. It's a herbal things and takes a while to kick in. She has been on it about 2 months now and seems much calmer this month so hopefully it's working. I think she'll always be a little madam in season and together with her age it seems more pronounced right now so I'm sure yours is just the same. From advice on here best thing is to try one of the remedies on the market, give it a good while and see if it works, if not try something else as it appears very hit and miss with these things. Good luck

This is very interesting! I have just posted in the Vet about my 7 yr old mare who up untill Monday you would never have know was in season. Monday night I lunged and I rode on Tuesday night - there was something just not right with her behind the saddle, it was almost as if she was a bit stiff or caught up. Last night I took her to school and she was dreadfull! suirting and winking at my friends gelding and screaching like a mad thing when ever he was out of sight! She never was like this before! She still wasnt 100% last night when ridden in canter! Not every stride but just enough that I know there is something up!
