Probably been asked - Dress Code for Shows

Hi peeps!!

After selling aload of stuff on Ebay this week, I am planning a "small" shopping trip to Ingatestone Saddlery tomorrow afternoon, mainly to get a new pair of long leather boots (oh, I can't wait!!) and then got thinking that I wouldn't mind a shirt and tie (I have a shirt and stock at present) My "colours" are baby blue (well, thats the colour of my stock pin) so was thinking of getting a white shirt and baby blue tie, would that be ok with a black show jacket do you think? Then I thought about a white tie, but I'm guessing thats not right is? I could break it up with a baby blue tie pin?

Any thoughts?? I have Dressage on Monday!!
 
If your jacket is black, I would go the other way round and get one of those nice baby blue pikeur shirts with a white stock. That'll show off your stock pin.

For dressage - black jacket and stock (white/cream/pale anyway) or navy jacket and stock, or tweed and coloured/patterned stock.
You can also wear tweed with shirt and tie, but I have never seen anyone with black jacket and shirt and tie....?
I stand to be corrected though!
 
What are you riding and are you talking SJ, dressage or showing?

For showing black jackets/hats/gloves/canes are not correct unless you are a gent. Then depending on the horse/class you are doing navy jacket or tweed is correct. Blue tweed is again not the done thing (and I have no idea why).

Some folks wear hats in colours other than navy, ie brown, grey, green and a few have been seen in burgandy. Tweeds are in a range of many shades of brown and green.

Jods are beige/cream/canary but never white for showing. Shirt and ties - never stocks, tie pin is correct. Most folks wear a coloured shirt to compliment the jacket and tie - white again is not often seen in showing.

Gloves - dark brown, light brown, tan, canary are acceptable.

Boots - the norm is for black, but again a few folks do wear brown.

I wear brown hat, brown tweed jacket, cream shirt and jods, gold/mustard tie with black boots and dark brown gloves, though do have a pair of dark brown boots I might try out. These colours do suit my bay skewbald gypsy cob and is correct for his type and the classes we do.

A tweed is often more use than a navy jacket as it can be used for most classes if you only want one jacket. It is also fine for local dressage, SJ etc and autumn hunting and hides the slober better than a navy show jacket.

If you do dressage, often folks wear white jods and gloves - but only wear white gloves if you have good hands as they really show up. White jods also seem to show the imperfection of thighs - hence I avoid them as they don't do my little fat legs any favours

I did a thread on tweeds a while back. I think the answer was that blue tweed is not incorrect just not traditional because in the old days wool dye didn't come in blue.
