my lad is gen very good and pretty laid back non spooky. since he's had two weeks off dossing in the field when i've been on holiday he's now a spooky little monster. now these are not just the odd spooks, these are 3 minuites of head held high, rigid body, snorting build up, then some sort of internal explosion!!

last night i hacked out with someone, not a problem normally, but for the first time ever he seemed to get so worked up/excited he actually kicked out at the other horse. never seen him do that before. he then wouldn't go forwards/backwards/sideways he just wanted to bounce about!! in the end he reversed me into a ditch whilst being an ass so i jumped off, walked him for a few mins, got back on and he was okay tho still very on edge and spooky

i think he's taking the pee. he's been back in work a week now so no excuse really. question is what should i do when building up to these spooks. he starts to tremble and if i pu my leg on he feels like he's gonna explode. i try talk calmly to him, keep a loose rein but he feels like a pan of boiling water thats about to boil over! any ideas or thoughts???

ta

oh i'll add his food has/was adjusted accordingly whilst off and coming back to work, he was and still is very fit whcih is prob half the issue

Have you had his saddle fit checked since he came back into work? I know it's only two weeks but could he have gained lost condition in that time? Probably not, but might be worth checking.

Other option is he's just fresh, excited and feeling well. Mine is a bit like this until I get his fitness to a level where I can work him fairly hard 5/6 days a week, then he is an angel!

he had is saddle checked about 4 weeks ago, will get it done again if this continues tho. but ye, i could lunge first but got caught out last night as was already on and started hacking so nothing i could do then!
