George does seem more settled in his new home, and on friday I began to think I'd got my old chilled out boy back

and yesterday a friend of mine gave him a bib and belly clip and he was good as gold

There is one problem that is really worrying me and I don't know what to do for the best

if I have bought him in for whatever reason he is fine, but if someone else then leads their horse past to be turned out or ridden George loses the plot, he stands about a foot taller almost trembling and stands pawing the ground and won't stop. He is tied outside with a haynet, and there is at least one other horse on the yard he can see. Yesterday I ended up taking him for some inhand grass, and he was fine, but when I bought him back to his stable he started again. So I tried putting him in his stable with his haynet and tried desperately to ignore him but I thought he was going to have the door off its hinges, so in the end I gave him his tea and he calmed down, but this felt like so the wrong thing to do, rewarding him for making a fuss

He wasn't like this at the previous yard, but then the routine there was very set, and everthing was done to all the horses at the same time.

Has anyone got any ideas or solutions, he is much the same in the mornings once they start turning out, so they try to do him 1st or 2nd.

Sounds to me like he might have a slight seperation anxiety thing going on. My friends horse developed it after moving yards he was fine if she brought him in from the field and there were no other horses in but in the morning or evening as soon as another horse was taken from its stable to somewhere he could'nt see it he threw a right wobbler!! He still does it now but she just ignores him. She has no idea how it all started as he used to be really chilled out!!

I think he is just still feeling a little unsettled at the moment and this is coming out as anxious behaviour when another horse is being moved from their stable....don't worry this is normal and you will get your chilled George back! Just continue to give him a solid routine and I am sure the anxiety he is displaying will lessen in the next week or so.
When I bought my 5 year old this summer he got very stressy when I tied him up outside his stable to groom/tack up and I found he was more calm if I did everything inside the comfort of his 'own' stable. That behaviour soon lessened over the first few weeks and he is now much calmer because I give him a very fixed routine and so he isn't worrying so much about what the other horses are doing because he has learnt that doesn't affect him at all!
Sorry I can't offer a more practical solution than that but good luck and keep being the fantastic mum to him that you are xx

He sounds as though he is still a bit unsettled - to go from a yard where there is a strict routine to one where horses are coming and going at different times will just take a bit of getting used to. Try not to worry, the calmer and more relaxed you are about things the easier he will settle down. Get him into his own routine so he knows what to expect each day and he will soon relax. Spring thrives on routine and does become a bit upset when things change - George sounds as if he is the same.
Good luck, your lovely calm horse will be back in no time!

Daisy moved yards just over a month ago and she was very stressy in her box when anything else walked on or off the yard. It took her until the last week or so really to calm down and get used to it. I would assume that as long as you have a good routine with him and are consistent with how you handle him then he'll settle
