I'm actually looking forward to it.......going to look at a large DIY yard with indoor school tonight.

Already ok'd changing my shift so I can start at 9.30am - means I'll be able to get a ride in before work.

Horray - may be able to keep my big ginger boy..... xxxx

I am on DIY and you dont see me getting up at that time, i pay someone else to do it for me

Really do hope you manage to keep him though. I looked at the pics of him on Horsemart and he looks so stunning now compared to what he was like when you first got him.

Oh, good luck with that! I went DIY in September (ok, I also made use of some turning out and other services when necessary, but still) and have never looked back since!!! yes, there have been those early wet mornings but it has been oh so rewarding to have the horse to myself and I know exactly what she gets fed, that her bed is nice and clean and big and the rest of it and I have saved so much money!!!

The novelty of mucking out etc and riding b4 work will soon wear off! HA HA. What I do is the girl that keeps her horse next door to mine hays and feeds in am and I do pm. This works for both of us as I cant get in the morning and she can. See if you can find someone to do that with, sure it would help.x

My alarm is set for 6.36

but to be fair I don't have to go up that early, just hate the thought of him standing in bored while the others get turnout out! I only go up once a day in the summer (unless I'm really bored at home). Hope the potential yard is perfect

my horse is about 1 min up the road so i feed brekkies and turnout and muck out at 6.30 then go back to bed for a while
was there this morning in my PJs

I work 12hrs shifts and am on DIY.

I do the horse after work when I'm on nights (also turn another 5 out and then mine is brought in and put to bed in exchange).

When I'm on days I pay someone to exercise and muck her out etc both ends of the day (some are swaps).

When I'm on days off then sometimes I have a lay in and one of the other liveries turns my mare out and other days I do theirs in the morning.

Someone I know has already sounded someone out about sharing my boy 2 days a week too (days I rehearse) so this could be a good option.....please keep everything crossed! x

Sounds good. Fingers cross it all works well. I have found that as long as it is a friendly yard, most people are in the same boat and are more than happy to do swaps to share the load (there are obviously the odd person on nearly every yard who takes the piss and doesn't do their fair share in the swaps deal!!! and also those who keep themselves to themselves). There is also normally someone who is happy to do any duties for cash that can't be covered with swaps.

Stimps it's not that bad!

I went from Full to DIY in 2004, as I couldn't justify paying someone to do what I could do better! Especially in the summer.

Paying someone to turn out for you in the morning would work out quite cheap and you could just go in the evening and do jobs, otherwise go in the morning and pay someone to bring in and finish off. I think this costs about £2 at my yard and is worth it, just to give you a rest some days.

Either that, or get to know people and see if you can come to an arrangement with some one where you turn out or bring in some days and they do the other end of the day - i've done this and it does help and costs nothing, but slows you down doing 2 or 3 horses instead of one.

Well, my alarm goes off at 5.30, and I'm at the yard by 5.50. But I do start work at 7.30 in order to finish early enough to ride at a decent time in the evening.
You do get used to the early starts, I actually quite like seeing the dawn!

mmmmm, went to look at a DIY yard and TBH I think time's going to be my issue.

my job is full on now and the band is going really well....I just don't think it's fair on him anymore.

god this is so hard!
