:eek:Hi all, please if you could give me a step by step guide as to what I do in this situation, during warm up the horse I ride is listening to me and will walk and trot, canter however is ok in the flat work but a nightmare when we begin to jump, I will be supposed to be coming to a jump in trot, but I can't get trot, I end up geting canter, or a really fast canter, and today I ended up on the ground over a jump. I have tried a trot circle, but this horse seems to want to control the pace. My instructor has said less pulling on the reins, but how the hell do you do that without a tug of war.....I'm confused:)

This may not work but what I did with mine is start off with raised poles/grid work and circle around. don't give them too much of a long line to think about it. Having several jumps made her think more and slowed her down.

Or circle in frnt of jump and only when horse is calm and responsive do you go over jump.
