Went for a lovely hack and Motor was fine, however he wanted to have a pee, which is unusual

He had a little one and then tried a couple more times, but only dribbled. He then left his Penis dangling, the 20 mins back to the yard.

He went straight into his stable and tried again and again, but only dribbled

When he went out into the field, he happily munched at the grass, but left it dangling

3/4 of an hour later, it was still dangling, but he seems happy in himself

When I looked at it, in detail, it appears to be swollen at the top, but tbo it could always be like this, but I don't think so

On Wednesday, I put a tiny bit of baby oil at the entrance, to soften up the smegma, but I am sure, if that was irritating him, he would have reacted sooner

Any ideas?

Sorry if you do not like the pic, but I thought this was the easiest way ......

Thank you

baby oil is made of mineral oil,and i dont like to use it.
i much prefer olive oil and have never had problems with that and being veg oil (and people put that in ears ect) i think it would be better.

it does look fatter at the top.but it could just be like that.
rubber glove, handful oil then smarm it on.

Sounds a bit odd! Might be related but keep a close eye on him just in case! Also make sure he is drinking plenty of fresh water!

I did notice that he had not drunk much, in the field, last night and today in the stable, but although he is a Cushings horse, he never drinks much anyway ...... you know the saying 'you can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make them drink'
smirk.gif

And yes I will keep my eye on him, as always
smile.gif

Thank you

Sounds like there is something going on, could possibly be an infection somewhere in the urinary tract, if he's still doing it tomorrow I would conisder calling the vet.

TripleSandH and Amymay ..... I am glad that you think it looks swollen and that I am not imagining it .... I will certainly call the Vet in the morning, if he is still showing signs of discomfort

Both my boys, have had problems peeing at times, but it has gone off, so let's hope he is back to normal in the morning

that does not look dirty to me is he ok in all other areas such as temperment eating drinking excersice etc?

[/ QUOTE ]

His is happy and content, but never drinks much and we had a lovely hack out ..... this came on suddenly, whilst out for a ride ..... but I know how much a horse can cope with and then they say 'I hurt'

try some apple juice in is water to try to get him drinking more. i would call vet ask there advice it might be worth just taking a urine sample!

I'm not all that sure I would be encouraging him to drink more, as if he's having problems peeing you don't really want to build up more fluid inside ? But I'm not sure on that!

Eaglestone, have you checked his penis for a bean?

I've just been reading up on them:

[ QUOTE ]
Beans" can be a life threatening problem. If allowed to get too large, they can shut off the urethra. They can also cause infections making the sheath swell and again, cut off the flow of urine

[/ QUOTE ]

Thanks again all
smile.gif

No he has not got a bean again, thank goodness

The following day, he was back to his normal self, so I was panicking for nothing, but as always, I will be watching him like a hawk
