ok so I have been told nemerous amounts of times that the reason my 14.3 connemarax tb is knocking jumps is because i'm too big for her. so listening to others, I bought a 16hh ISH. first of all everything was good and I got on really well with him, and then when i went to addington, he was spooked and took off, and i had a nasty fall, I got straight back on afterwards and jumped the course and he seemed fine, but after that i had 4 weeks off because of injuries. Now I've got back on it seemes to me as he was running in the canter and I got nervous of him. he'll start off ok and then will get faster and faster, and i have had a few people on him who agreed he does the same thing, however they put it to balance... but to me it's only started since i fell off. and now I don't want to ride him at all :'(

It seems stupid as it hasn't knocked my confidence on any other horse, only him and I really do like the horse! Does he just seem like he's running off now because of what happened?

He could be running off due to loads of reasons (one or several)- his saddle hurts, the wrong bit, teeth sharp, rider unbalanced, rider having too much contact, he doesnt understand rider, unbalanced horse- he physically cant use his hindquarters and so on....

You need to rule out discomfort of any sort and then have someone on the ground to help you

This sounds like a very new partnership and an early experience together has been a bad fall.

My advice is to find a good instructor and have some lessons so you both gain confidence in each other.

Well to be brutal he's probably sensing your tension and speeding up. So don't give him the chance, to check it's not a balance issue make sure he can canter happily on the lunge, reduce the size of the circle and watch him slow himself down to cope. Then when you are riding him start your canter as you come off the long side and if (when!) he starts to speed up put him on a 20m circle. If you're nervous you'll be leaning forwards and it's probable your legs will be back slightly, all of which is encouraging him to speed up so consciously sit up until you feel that you are almost leaning back.

The other thing to do would be to just ride him in walk and trot until you feel confident of him again. Then follow the above.

he has had back, teeth done ect and a new wow saddle fitted, i had a riding instructor out to him and he did it with her too when she got on him. He also doesn't seem to do it during showjumping or out hacking just in the school.

I would persevere with lessons and start in slower paces, as suggested. Get to know your horse before trying to do faster work and jumping

If you have had lessons where he has done this than your instructor should give you some feedback on it. If not, or if nothing can be solved I would suggest getting a new instuctor, someone that has alot of experience. Goodluck. Also, look at what your doing, do you grip/tense up/change?? Is he feeding off of you? Again a good instructor will spot this .

Goodluck
