I've moved my horses onto rubber mats to save time and my poor old back. There are only a couple of feed merchants in my area and they only seem to do shavings, bedmax (awful stuff) and Arboise (too expensive). I keep reading on this forum about megazorb and aquamax but no-one does that in my area. I don't have the space to order a large amount to be delivered as I only have 3 stables (all used) and a shed for tack room. Just wondered if anyone knew somewhere else in the Derbyshire/South Yorks area that does alternative bedding??
When I was on a livery yard some years ago they used bedding that was like little paper balls and that was really good. I have no idea what its called and can't find on the web.

Well interestingly the stables with rubber matting down were using a megazorb type bedding last year - which YO didn't feel was working particularly well.

So she has gone back to shavings on the mats, which is working just fine.

We use shavings on our rubber mats (we've tried numerous other products and still reverted back).

Beaverhall in Staffordshire are agents for the Bliss bedding and I know all their horses are bedded down on that (over the matting). Our YO tried it briefly on her own horse but couldnt get along with it... I know other places rave about the stuff though. I dont know whether they deliver or any of the details though.

where abouts in Derbys are you. I have just started to use aubiose and yes although it is expensive i think it's good stuff. Apparantly 12 times more absorbant than shavings. ABout £2 per bale more to buy

Argo feeds do a huge range of bedding - theyre at Penistone, or if youre looking for shaving I found a very reasonable wood merchants just off the M1 called McClures who do shavings at £3.50 a bale

I've never used Megazorb so can't comment; but I have used Aubiose and it is absolutely fantastic with rubber matting! You hardly use any of it, it lasts for ages, is easy as pie to clear up and cost-effective wise......I'd say much much cheaper than shavings over the long term.

I'm in Chesterfield. I've have used Auboise before and didn't really get on with it. My mare seems to walk about a lot in her stable and it got all messed up so ended up throwing a lot away and its too expensive for that!!
Which junction off M1 is McClures as £3.50 for shavings is very good!!

Just off J31 - not far from Parklands saddlery. Very easy to get to - if you want directions let me know
address is McClure Timber Merchants, Mansfield Rd, Wales Bar, Sheffield, S26 5PQ - 0114 2874874

sure they were £3.50+VAT a bale(sorry forgot to put that - still works out cheaper than a lot of places), only reason im querying it is because i bought a pallet, and a pallet or more (30+) they sell them at £3 a bale plus vat which works out a £3.52 a bale.

Browns in Denby do aquamax and a few others. I also have friends who have their horses on megazorb - I could find out where they source it from if you like (pm me if you do) ?

i used shavinggs on my rubber mats at the mo, but am going to mix up my own concoction, i find shavings move around alot, so my plan is to mix 1 bale of easi bed for weight, 1 bale of english shavings for absorbance and a bale of bedmax for comfort, think sometimes bext way when you dont find one to suit, mix your own !!!! horses dont mind, personal favorite in non rubber matted is a shavings bed with straw on the top as the pee gets locked away and straw stays dry and fluffy, and good for deep littering or you move straw to one side and shavings to other to muck out, think people can be far to finy with bedding, as long as clean dry and non dusty , the only reason i am going to do my own mix and put more bales in than normal is to get some banks up to prevent drafts etc for the winter

Have tried most things as have a very wet horse, the only thing that works for me is Cushionbed.
It's cheaper than shavings and is heavy so doesn't move. It's very absorbent and only takes 10 mins to muck out!!
