My 2 year old has just began to think that it is a good idea to squash me against the wall when i am doing something he doesn't like! It sounds like a stupid question but how can i stop him as trying to push him off is the most obvious thing but if i do that he just does it quicker as he seems to panic if you use to tap him he would stop straight away but now he seems to be getting to comfortable with people. Any suggestions?
He has just started doing it and he hasn't been allowed to get away with anything and has always been treat firm but fair How can i teach him that this is wrong?

Tie him up and dig him in the ribs with your elbow when he does it. Not hard, more like a push......

Works well with my 16.2 lout!

Its when hes tied up that he does it, will have to stick the elbow in and see if that makes him think twice next time. Don't know why he does it cause hes perfect to lead just think hes starting to try it on

Do we take it from your username he is welsh?!

Pushing is a waste of time, and your elbow possibly not pointy enough. Have a hoof pick in your hand and then a good poke (sharp, rather than 'pushing') with the blunt end, together with an 'over' growl should work. If you're worried about being rough with him then think about how one of his herd superiors would deal with it if he tried to squash them against a wall!!!

I'd definately practice getting him to move over even when he's not actually squashing you, since you'll be able to move your arms properly.

This also good grounding for when you're riding - my 3yo that i've just backed moves away from the leg beautifully, as I discovered yesterday when opening a gate from the saddle!!

do some groundwork with him so he understands that he can't move into your space.
horses will move into pressure so sometimes digging them with your elbow etc will have the opposite effect to what is required.

have you tried doing some ground work with a dually?

my mare used to do this if we did stuff she didnt like or her best trick was body slamming the vets then getting them with her hind legs.
i found pushing or poking her just taught her to push more.
