problems with 6 month old puppy/dog.

hiya everyone, just woundered if people could give me a little advice. my little lady seems to have reverted in her house training and although 2 months ago she was doing all her toileting out doors she now seems to think the kitchen floor is the best place for it! its that bad that she will even do it just inside the open kitchen door whilst looking out at the garden! she doesnt seem to think much to cold and wet weather, the problems started when we had a rainy spell a few weeks ago as we just couldnt get her outside, she loves going for walks but if its raining she is a real effort to get out the door and i even have resorted to carrying her half way round walks then making her walk home! but she also wont go out on the back yard to do her buisness.

any suggestions on what to do with her would come in lovely, shes crate trained, she stays in her crate then we take her straight into the garden and spend about 30 mins outside with her but she has been saving it untill we eventually let her back in thinking she must be fine. then she comes in and within 10 min does it on the kitchen floor. she goes back in her crate when we eat and there is an overlap in an evening for a couple of hours were we are both at work so she goes back in then and each time we let her out the ritual is the same... when she does go outside we make sure she gets lots of praise but it doesnt seem to be making much difference.

back to stage one i think.

So treats on u at all time to ensure that when she goes outside its YEY GOOD GIRL treat!
its sunnier at the moment so hopefully that will help get her back on track (but still treats etc)
and if you catch her doing it in the ktichen, if she now KNOWS she is not allowed to go in the house, then a stern NO! and then take her outside straight away and hopefully she will finish her business outside, then its Good girl, treat!

sorry it sucks, but my puppy was the same, he had the odd lapse in judgement.
Next time it rains as well, take her favourite toy or treats outside, and ok ur gonna get wet, but go outside and play with her in the rain! that way she doesnt think screw that! im not going out there!!!!!! it will be YEY rain PLAY TIME!

Just re read it, saying that u dont think the treats make a difference.

If you know that after about 10 minutes she goes on the kitchen floor, then when u let her back in, watch her like a hawk! the moment she is about to go on the floor thats when its the really stern angry sounding NO!!!! then straight outside!

then the treats will seem like a great thing!

As suggested, back to basics, don't let her out of your site because then u cannot break and correct the habit, if u are popping out of the room, pop her back in the crate, if she is clean in the crate and won't pass in there she is not getting a chance to urinate when u are not in the room.
Also maybe get her a dog coat with a hood if she is not keen on the rain, and see if she will be more inclined to venture out with a coat on or if u can entise her to play out in the garden with u when it's raining to try and assosiate a positive with the rain.

I have a bitch like that, the only one I have to seen to behave like this: very bright, brilliant with her general training (obedience and agility), has no problem going to the toilet on cue and fine in good weather, but come cold or rain she really cannot be bothered to get wet!!!! A real madam!!!

The only things I have found that help are trying to make her more of a dog, i.e. walks in the mud and rain with other dogs to get her going a bit, trying different surfaces for her to go to the toilet on (she prefers gravel to grass) and staying out in the rain with her until she decides to go...can take ages though!

Also now your kitchen floor will smell like her own personal toilet to her nose even if you cannot detect it. This just encrouages her to use it time and time again. Give it a really good scrub 2 or 3 times with BIOLOGICAL laundry detergent as the enzymes help break down the urine.
