hello all you experianced canine people, first time posting in here,
Have you, or anyone you know, had a problem with the above?
A very dear friend of mine gave her rottie the drop treatment for fleas, and within hours was rushed to the vets becaused she had collasped, had to go on a drip and was very touch and go. she has now filed a complant with the company and wants to know if anyone else has experianced problems, also anybody know of any solictitors that deal with canine cases? many thanks.

Firstly, so sorry your friend's dog has had a bad reaction.
Secondly - not heard of Frontline causing this sort of reaction, not being effective in drop from -yes, but not collapse.
Where did she purchase the drops?
Hartz flea drops are known to have caused this sort of effect.

thirdly - why a solicitor? What do the vet's say?

My border collie had problems with the drops-his skin became sore and hair fell out but he is supersensitive to everything! cant even change the washing powder i wash his bed in! but he doesnt react to the spray which is how he gets done all the time now. although through summer with mite allergies and whatnot he gets a watered down aludex wash every few weeks.
Some breeds are more sensitive to these kind of products and there are a lot of warnings on the bottle so I wouldnt know where you stand on this subject re the law? hope the rottie is ok :)

Stella, my Boston terrier, developed a large lump after using Frontline. It went away after a few weeks, but we decided not to use the product again (that was four years ago, and we've successfully kept fleas and ticks at bay with a variety of herbal powders and natural sprays).

Last year Frontline was added to the EPA's (Environmental Protection Agency) watch list, after numerous reports of adverse reactions:

Nope I have never seen this as a result of frontline spot on's.

Exactly and in the link the severe cases are not from Frontline.

If you dropped tea tree oil on me I could have a severe allergic reaction and some people splash and spray it around.

Again, why a solicitor? Unless there are a large number of incidents any fees would far outweigh any compensation and very few dogs react to Frontline, those that do generally have temporary local swelling or itching and if checked have generally had it applied outside the manufactures recommendations.
I frequently have to remind people, on collecting their freshly groomed dog, that they should wait four days before applying flea treatments. ( ok the packs say three days but is that 72 hours or three clear days?)

By all means collect data on reactions and for this try one of the dog paper forums.

My cousins dog had a similar reaction although it was a frontline spray not spot on. Dog nearly died as well, but she was unsure if it was a general reaction to the spray or if she applied too much :( as she is a v small terrier.

s4sugar, she want's to a solicitor that deals with canine case's , I am thinking that she wants to take the makers of Frontline to task. Personally I think that she maybe hissing in the wind, and I think she may have to put her dog nearly dieing from useing this product down to experiance, and not use it again, but also I think I would be peved, after buying a product to deal with fleas and end up with a very expencive vets bill, let alone the stress of losing her dog!
