Box is off to the garage for mot and service on Friday but thought I'd post here on the off chance any clever peeps had any advice.

I've just bought a Renault master 3.5 van (k reg) but I've noticed two things about the ramp. The ramp itself weighs an absolute ton and is rather exhausting to do with one person ( although not impossible) - is there anything that can be done to counter this weight to make it a wee bit easier?

The other thing is that when the ramp goes up you then have to pull down the top bit however they don't seems to quite meet properly. I've had a right game this evening pushing it from the outside and pulling from the inside but still couldn't quite get it right, the lady I've bought it from said she's never had a problem and tbh I'm inclined to believe her. Does anyone have any hints re this?

Ta muchly

Can the garage add some gas assisted struts? That is what my 3.5t lorry had & was easy to lift - the equitreks use these too?!

When you say it isn't quite meeting right... is it not closing & unsafe? It might be the old owner just didn't notice / worry. Is the ramp bent maybe? Or just need an adjustment to it's springs!

Tighten the springs - i had to make mine heavy as it was too light an didn't go down all the way and was quite hard to get my foot up on and it then BANGed to the floor which Z did'nt like much- easy to sort. I expect some moisture has got into the wood which means the ramp is inching somewhere get some one inside and work out where and shave a bit off. Easily solved problems- hope MOT goes smoothly!

Thank you :)

I know there is a wee bit of MOT work to do but fingers crossed it wont be too expensive ( box was a wee bargain and I have rough idea of how much the mot should cost). I've stopped feeling quite so sick about it now lol.

The other thing is that when the ramp goes up you then have to pull down the top bit however they don't seems to quite meet properly.

Are they not lining up? Was it parked on a slope? My top doors need to be adjusted as the catch doesn't clear the bottom when parked on a slope with the ramp on the downhill side (Fine on the flat or if ramp on the up hill side)!

becki....it will close, ramp bit locks up fine but the top bit just seems slightly out of line , it will fasten on one side but looks like its not quite right on the other side.

Piebaldsparkle, it's not parked on a slope as far as I remember but tbh the whole yard is higgledypiggeldy lol
