Getting a full pallet of wood pellets delivered just seems impossible. A full pallet lasts me shout 4 to 5 months just ordered a pallet and have been told this unfortunately we can no longer offer 7.5T Delivery vehicles for pallets of 975kg unless you own a forklift. This is due to a ban on pallets over 750kg from the RHA (Road Haulage Association).
we don't have forklift and are a farm without any close neighbours they only give a rough idea of delivery time on the DAY of delivery only so not possible to get anyone here with a forklift to hang about for hours.
they have agreed this time to open the pallet and 3 of us will decant into a trailer on the property .They say an a 18T curtain-sider lorry cannot access our lanes so must use 7.5 T vehicle.
Wondering if this means wood pellets are now not a possibility for us.
They don't sell them at any local feed merchants so can't order locally.
anyone else having problems?

SDL have just delivered 4 pallets to me in 12t lorry. No forklift, tail lift and hand jack trolley onto concrete yard. Then we put under cover by hand.

I gave up with white horse in the end and cancelled my order. It’s is a long winded and tedious story that verges on the point of being ridiculous that I can’t be bothered to explain but more or less a similar situation to yourself.

We’ve had three different companies deliver full pallets this year. I got mine from White Horse and a forklift wasn’t used. They did however nearly deliver it to my billing address instead of the yard and it was a nightmare to change. They seem to contract out to Palletways and then a sub contractor local distributor delivers them. Luckily for me the owner of that company happens to have a horse on my yard otherwise I’d have had 135 bags of wood pellets delivered to my small terrace house!

They used a hand jack trolley to move the pallets.

The last pallet I had from White horse was also a nightmare to get delivered.
The pellets themselves are good but because of the hassle with delivery I'm not sure that I will use them again to be honest.
Annoying as I've recommended them on here before. The delivery this time was beyond a joke.

That is a shame. I found them really good when I was at a yard with poor access. I guess it boils down to the transport company doing the last bit.

White Horse is a pain. I understand that the pallets can only be offloaded onto concrete, but they won't do what they need to do to off load onto my concrete yard. The approach is road planings, so to get the pallet onto concrete, they'd have to reverse down the side of the barn, and get the pallet off the taillift sideways (which is what other companies do). They off load onto the concrete pan at the front of the barn, so I have to move every bag by wheelbarrow! I haven't had a driver with sufficient English to be able to explain that it's do-able yet!

Have you got anywhere a tonne could be blown in?
Have got an empty barn do you have any any details for this?
The H+S rules appear to have changed on 7.5T trucks off loading. We cannot get a18T on our lanes .It appears we may have to have half pallets delivered dearer by £20 plus double the delivery charge!

I've changed to straw pellets. Less dusty and more absorbent and seem to stay softer. I can buy them at the feed shop as well for only slightly more than they would cost me on a pallet, so I'm happy!

There are only 2 feed merchant locally neither have wood or straw pellets. Would happily buy locally if I could. All the wood pellet suppliers seem to have the 7.5T h+s notice about off loading on their sites they will loose a lot of buisness if they can't sort this out.

We have shavings from a Building Supply Company and they deliver on a flat bed type of truck with a grabber on top. It makes getting the pallets off much easier.

We had issues with White Horse last year. We're at the top of a steep(ish) hill. There were wet leaves on the lane and the driver managed to get the lorry stuck. I've never known any other lorry get stuck there but he managed it! He wouldn't let YO pull him up with the tractor in case it damaged the lorry. In the end, he reversed back down, dumped the three pallets we had ordered in the middle of the junction to the lane so nobody could get in or out and b*****ed off! YO was there on his own (he'd agreed to sign for them for us but nothing else) and was recovering from hernia surgery so couldn't do a thing. Luckily it was a delivery for the whole yard, although I had ordered it so was getting all the phonecalls. I did a quick ring round and got everyone who could be there in their lunch hour to move them all by hand into one livery's lorry that they had to reverse down to the pallets. Funnily enough he managed to drive up the lane with no problems at all.. I complained to White Horse but they didn't want to know, said drivers were nothing to do with them. It was someone else's turn to order them this year so no idea where they came from.

They have arrived!!!!! The driver was lovely we opened the top of the packaging then off loaded half the bags into a box trailer behind our quad the pallet was then light enough for him to move with his tailgate lift onto the concrete drive.
he was really helpful the whole process only took about 15 minutes .
he did say he thought one of the bigger lorries could easily access us and they can off load easily heavier weights will make a note on our account for future deliveries.
All sorted after a stressful few days

We get pellets from Sorbeo and don't have a forklift either (& dad won't let me drive his precious tractor and put the forks on it if he's not there!). They deliver with no issues so might be worth speaking to them for future deliveries
