Dog (5) has come back from her walk about an hour ago - nothing strenuous as she has hip displasia (mild) but is happy as a pig in you know what.

Anyhow - shes just got up now and her leg (back left) totally spazed out, she was walking to the door (not happy) just her leg almost shaking but still walking/striding (like there was something ON her leg

Ive felt her pads (much to her disgust), theres nothing stuck in them/no cuts - her legs are fine, no obvious swellings.

She didnt cry, and is currently sat on her bed looking a little confused and peed off...

Never seen any dog's leg do that!.... Normal??? cant be a dead leg as she wasnt lying down that long - she follow me round like a lost sheepdog!...

My Dobie gets a wobbly / twitchy leg if he overdoes it when he is running around. He has a bit of a dodgy hip and a bit of arthritis and is 6. He is always fine after he has rested it and had a sleep. I would see how it is after some rest. Vet gave me some metacam for if he ever is in pain but he doesnt appear to be, so have only had to use it once or twice.

Thanks - shes on cartrofen as she was on metacam that long her kidneys were being affected.

In fact its probably time around now she needs a blood test to check everything

Will see how she goes after a rest. (shes currently flat out but wide awake - very strange)!

probably nothing but ive never seen a leg spaz out like that before!

I would be very wary using Metacam on your Dobe, mine was a bit lame and took him to the vet at a big vet school. I saw a student first who checked him out and then the tutor comes in and they discuss what is wrong, treatment etc. The student suggested rest with Metacam but the tutor said he is a Dobe and some have had bad reactions to Metacam and suggested something else.

Just something you should be aware of for next time.

Did she walk in stinging nettles, I ask this as my puppy did this a couple of weeks after I got him and I was really worried but it passed after about 20 mins - he then did it again a couple of days later and his leg went all twitchy again about 10 mins after running through a bunch of stingers in front of me ... he avoids stinging nettles now

Just a thought ...

hi orbie - no she didnt....her walk is on grass/paths

no trees or nettles :(

shes going the vets tomorow for her cartrofen - i booked her a few days early to sort this leg out

Thanks for that, very interesting info. He's been fine the couple of times hes had it but I am very wary anyway of giving it because of the effects of using it long term so he normally just has to sleep off the 'overdoing it'.

But if I do need to start using it I will def check out now before doing so regularly!
