When at badminton this year i saw a product similar to vet wrap, but just for the hoof.

I think you soak it in water, wrap it where needed round the hoof and it goes hard.

What is it called and were can i get some?

Thanks in advance for your help!

thank you.

It this ideally for a farrier to apply and remove?

It seems like a farrier would have to remove it as it goes so hard!

I was thinking of using it on my tb gelding.
He has recently had a hoof abscess, im considering what to do next.
The puss has all gone and and im keeping is bandaged to keep clean.
I thought something like this would be good to keep clean and protect his foot until the shoe is put back on, or as his feet arnt good anyway use aswel as a shoe to protect it while the hoof is growing.

I used it when my arab mare was barefoot as an alternative to boots.
I can say that it does not stand up to a significant amount of work but I would have thought it would be perfect for protecting the hoof of a horse on box or paddock rest.
My farrier was more than happy for me to apply it myself and you can cut it off with a stanley knife.
Very easy to put on, wrap the hoof in the same way as you would with vetwrap and then dunk in a bucket of water. Just make sure that you do not wrap over the heels or the coronary band, only cover hoof wall and sole.

We are also looking at using it to wrap the TBs feet before he is shod and then applying the shoes over the top as his feet are breaking up and not growing leaving the farrier with absolutely nothing to nail on to.
However beware of the cost, as whilst the cast itself is not too expensive my farrier was looking at £50 per foot (including the cast itself) to put these on. On the plus side he is confident that you could get two or three shoeings without having to remove and rewrap the feet.

Hope that helps!

Thank you that is a great help.

My tb has one really bad foot, he had an abscess before i bought him that had been cut away at the very top of his hoof.
A year later it has grown right down but as there was a gap between shoe and hoof, he bruised it and has just had another abscess.
I wanted to do something to protect the hoof now the abscess had cleared and help support while the hoof wall grows back.
