Professional Choice Girths

Good evening All ☺️

I have an ISH gelding (ID x TB) but I’d say more the ID stamp.

I currently have him in a shires non-elastic girth but have been doing some research on girths and the ‘Professional Choice VenTech’ seems highly recommended.

What I would like to know (before I spend the money as not cheap!)

* Are these girths worth it?
* Are they good for a sensitive horse? (Mines a big baby)
* Do they help prevent the saddle from moving?
* Is the elastic tough? ( Don’t want to over tighten)
* Are they true to size or would you size down? (Currently in a 56” but on 4th hole each side)

Also open to other people’s reviews on other girths too!

I rated mine, and felt it was worth it (I’ve had two - dressage one for a TB and normal one for a cob). Lasted much longer than cheaper copies (in fact both still look like new - I’ve kept them as spares as both horses are in heaven).
Girth is soft and never rubbed. I used one on a sensitive TB and it was great for her.
I used one on my old cob and it helped keep his saddle in place (round barrel) - actually why I got it.
Yes, the elastic is tough
True to size in my experience (both versions)
 
I second yes to all of those questions.

They are very good for sensitive horses, and those that get girth galls easily, and they hold the saddle in place without needing to be overtightened.

One thing I would say is that the have longer elastic bits than many girths (part of the function) so when you check your girth, if you do it too near the top it feels like it needs going up. But if you reach down below the elastic, you’ll realise it’s actually tight enough.
 
Yes to all.

I resisted getting one for my sensitive prone to rubs including elbows boy because it wasn't shaped but should have done it years ago. Share boy has the anatomic version now, and the other has a standard pro choice one.

There are cheaper versions around too but ebay is also good for them.
 
Yes they are excellent. We’ve had ours for about 6 months and going strong. Saddle fitter recommended it for my girthy pony, saddle also moved a little as she’s quite round. It keeps the saddle still and the girthiness is much better.

Yes definitely worth the money . I did 1000’s of miles in mine doing that long distance rides and never once had a rub. I have now given them to a mate and they are still using them with hardly any wear or tear.
 
Too late I know but as a fitter I prefer a non grippy finish and strong/slightly shorter elastic, I recommend the Dabbs waffle girth with elastic. As other have said be very careful not to overtighten. Also doing up to the 4th hole would send me to the size down, 3rd hole or lower is better and I recommend the shortest size you can get done up. This helps stability and keeps the buckles away from the riders leg.

Lastly, always check with your fitter, I could have saved my customers a lot of money if only they'd checked with me first. We all fit differently and therefore often prefer different girths (to the level that the wrong one can cause issues).

Thanks for the advice re holes for girth straps, I always wondered that! We go to 4th/5th hole on my daughters professional choice girth (something has stretched!) so I think I'll size down now. Thanks!
 
Sadly my horse had a terrible reaction to the girth so after one use it’s for sale 😭 does anyone know where on here I can advertise the girth?

Interestingly the elastic is shorter/stronger on the anatomical version I’d say similar to the HD triple elastic (which is why we can’t get it up atm 🙄) the size up of the standard version is a tad too long.

My issue with the HD was that the binding would always split behind the elbows which was prime rub site for us.
 
Both my Harry Dabbs waffle girths edging cracked so have had to bin as would have pinched. I’ve recently bought a tapestry girth which seems to be well liked by pony and keeps saddle stable.
