I wondered if anyone had any recommendations in the Devon area for someone to jump school my 5 year old for a week or two.

He is very athletic and jumping very well (according to my instructor) but he keeps bucking after the fences (mega bucks out of exuberance & cockiness) and I'm starting to lose confidence and hold on too tight which is making it worse (& may even be part of the cause of the bucking).

I was hoping for a quiet, kind but experienced rider to school him for a few weeks to see if they can ride him through it. I've looked around online but it is hard to tell credentials and whether they are a kind rider. The horse is sharp and has a strong personality so I know a beating will do no good!

If you have any experiences of anyone good or bad then please share. If you're naming someone bad I shouldn't use please PM me so the thread doesn't breach any rules!

My baby is currently being rebacked by Matthew Hall, she's also sharp, he's doing a fab job with her. He's highly rated and I can only say good stuff about him. I know lots of others who have used him who also speak very highly. PM me for contact details or google Matthew Hall Equestrian.:)

Thanks Tallulah - I have had 2 recommendations for him now and I've been in contact and had a nice email back. I think my plan is to book a lesson with him (me riding) and see what he thinks of the horse and what he can do to help us both as I can only afford a couple of weeks as still have to pay my own livery to keep my place on my yard!!

How long has he had her and what sort of things is she doing?
It's never easy is it?!
I'm going to have chat with my yard owner - I'm normally in full livery - so might ask if I can pay a reduced amount given the horse won't actually be there eating feed or hay and using bedding. It's a really nice yard that I am on so don't want to risk upset YO or anyone!!!!

Another huge thumbs up for Matt Hall, fantastic chap, does fab job, very sympathetic rider.:D

Becki,
After two weeks she is under saddle and hacking out alone. He's now working on raising expectations re moving off the leg and transitions. She also not lunged before he gets on now. Given that she had a bad experience with ovarian pain which coincided with a new saddle I was expecting there to have been some issues but so far so good! Matt keeps in touch to update me and is happy for me to go and see her. He's also keen that once she has more miles in her I go and ride her there (I lost confidence after getting ditched and dislocating thumb and twanging shoulder!) so that as a partnership we are both 110% confident and happy before I bring her home. I am chuffed and am so glad I made the right decision. He's a very kind but firm rider and I've heard does a great job with quite tricky horses as well.
Mine, like yours, would go down fighting if handled the wrong way.:)
