I was curious if anyone knows how the professionals split the prize money between themselves and the owners ?

£60k is a great prize, but I wonder how much Oli Townsend gets to keep ? Does anyone know the usual formula ?

It varies completely, dependant on how much the rider has asked for when they take on the ride. Some owners wont give the riders any share of the prize (they pay for the riders to compete their horses, its not like the rider is doing them a favour) and others will give a significant chunk of it to the rider, as a thank you. I don't think owners are legally obliged to give the rider anything (other than their normal fee) unless the rider has set out in a contract that they want a percentage when taking the ride on.

Most riders I know either don't get anything, or ask for 10% of winnings.

It all depends on the contract. Mine is split 50/50 between owner and rider. As an owner, I'm happy with that. Mind you my horse has never won £60k.
