As in title, friends horse having xrays at vets now.

Really worried, she also had crack in front of hoof which was bleeding.

Obviously depends on the extent and type of fracture but i know a horse that had a fractured pedal bone and once healed he started eventing, got to intermediate level.

totally depends on exact site of fracture (which part of pedal bone), whether it has moved, etc etc i think. i'd keep fingers tightly crossed. would be worried by bleeding from crack in hoof, really hope it's okay.

Thanks guys!

Ive got fingers, toes, arms and legs crossed.

God only knows how she has managed to do it in the field.

i had one fracture his pedal bone out in the field too. a totally flat field with nothing it it but grass.

unbelievable what they can do to themselves. will keep everything crossed for her.

My mare fractured the wing of hers around Christmas, she is now back in work after a period of box rest and controlled exercise. The vet is pretty confident that it shouldn't cause any problems in the future, but I will be cautious on hard ground, rough going etc.

Fingers crossed for good news.

My boy fractured the wing of his pedal bone a few years ago. After 6 months box rest he is now fine and eventing successfully

my boy was not so lucky, he fractured his, but he was 12 and had severe arthritis in one fore limb that if not kept moving would seize up....
obv this was a rock and a hard place situation, and he was pts.... but I think this is a rare instance...

In 1978 my pony fractured his pedal bone when he was 17. The next year we were shortlisted for the Pony Dressage Team for the European Champs - beat that for a miracle recovery!

Never lose hope.

I have just brought my mare back into light work after 10 months of complete box rest due to her fracturing her nearside hind pedal bone. She has egg bar shoes on both back feet to give stability and has recently had 6 weeks of rehabilitation treatment before bringing her back into work.

Vet doesn't know whether she will come completely sound as she had a hairline fracture to her coffin joint aswell. As long as she is pain free and is sound enough for hacking then i will be pleased.

I hope your friends horse is ok.
