No I haven't been thatunlucky already after poor little Ra being put down on Tuesday...

I hope noone thinks this is heartless but when I got back on Tues, I had an email from a TB Rehoming Charity. I have been on their waiting list for about 6 months and one has just come up that might be suitable for me. What are the chances of that happening?

Is it fate? I wasn't going to start looking for a while but I thnk I can offer an ex-racer a good home. I don't know, still a bit cut up but I thought I would go and have a look anyway as the manager raved about him and said he loves cuddles and is a real honey. Ra was a real cuddle-monster and I miss it! Anyway, he is 5 yo, 16.2hh and taking to being a riding horse very well.

But....

He fractured his off fore in Jan 2010 but raced 7 times since then. I want to jump and do dressage. She says he should be fine for both. He doesnt have an amazing trot and his jump needs work but I assume that both will come with time.

What do you think? Leave well alone? Go look and see? Not sure. Still a bit upset but don't want to miss out on a fab horse but have no idea about fractures and their impact on future ability. Having said that, I am sure they would not rehome him as suitable for jumping if he wasnt.

Tea and stickies for getting this far!

Sorry don't habe much advice to gibe but I used to work with a racer that fractured one of his fore legs flat racing, he is now hunting and pointing and hasn't had a problem in about 4 years

One of mine chip fractured his radius last year and is now back in full work - xcing, jumping etc. Generally speaking, bone is a very "honest" tissue - once it's healed, it is as pretty well as good as it was before, sometimes stronger - unlike soft tissue injuries which never really heal 100%.

Mine had hairline fractures to her hind cannon, at the same time she damaged her suspensories & annulars. At no point was the vet concerned they could cause problems in later life & the insurance hasn't imposed any exclusions on them either.

So it should he should be fine for jumping etc then? His jump isnt awesome but I hope it might be able to be brought on if I like everything else. I will obviously try and get all vet records and i will have him fully vetted. probably xrayed too just in case

go look, speak to a vet , then take it from there? no point in not going, as you will only regret not having a look, good luck .
p.s. i had been looking for a horse for a few months as my guy was injured, 2 days after he was pts i got a call about my fabulous mare :D, funny how things work out sometimes x
