Ok so a bit of background first.

Frenchie has been a Rossdales and has had a series of nerve blocks, xrays and ultra sound and the problem appears to be osteoarthritis in the "shock absorber" joints in both hocks (as oppose to the hinge joint which does the actual leg movement), plus suspensory problems, which appear minimal during the nerve blocks, but appear more serious on the ultra sound-most likely because the damage was done as a youngster (she was jumped quite hard on the affiliated circuit in France by the look of her comp. record) so she has learnt to compensate. She'll be going back in a couple of weeks for bone scans to check there's nothing else underlying and then providing there's nothing else she'll have shockwave treatment for the suspensory problems, cortico steroid injects into the hocks for the arthritis and also another injection into the hock (can't remember the name) as her body has started to degrade the hock bones to try and overcome the arthritis.

So i just wondered if anyone had had anything similar and if so what the prognosis was

Taa muchly x

HI, My mare was diagnoses with arthritis in her hocks a week ago. today. She had the cortisone injections in both hocks. Ive just ridden her every other day on the straight ( no hills) and Ive seen an improvement in her. On Sunday I am allowed to start doing some gentle exercises with her. Ive also addded Glucosamine and Chrointin into her diet and have ordered some magnetic boots. Hope everything goes okay and hope Frenchie has a speedy recovery x
