I posted this in Comp Riders, but either nobody knows the answer (I'm guessing unlikely!) or nobody thinks I'm worth replying to (more likely!) :(:D

So, I'll give it a go here!

Please could someone explain to me the typical route of progression through the different levels of eventing? ie. how do you go from the lowest level (which I believe is 80T?) through to competing at Badminton, Burghley etc? And what kinds of restrictions are there on the horses who can compete at each level? Does it operate on a points system similar to the notional money earned at BSJA? If you are an amateur rider on a horse who has been there, done it etc, what effect does that have on the route you take and what you can enter?

Many thanks :D

I think possibly its quite a BIG question.
How long is a peice of string kind of job...

Have you tried reading the useful guides on the BE website.
I would suggest having a lesson with a BE trainer - Great fun, and after the lesson they can tailor the 'moving on up' advice to you and your horses asperations.

Good luck!

:)

Thanks for your reply! :)

I'm asking not because I have any aspirations myself (Ellie and I will never progress beyond 2'6 hunter trials, lol!) but because I want to be more informed before I start my latest literary project - I know quite a lot about the BSJA routes, but nothing of BE! Talking to a BE trainer would probably be a good idea, so thank you for that! I will have a recce on the BE website too :) x

im bored at work,,, so your my project now ;)

Pippa Funnels Autobiography lists achievements and how she went from pony club to Badminton ect - that might be very handy!

New members plus existing members moving up the ladder must complete 3 BE100/BE100Plus classes with a clear on the XC and no more than 16 SJ jumping penalties before being eligible to compete in a novice level competition. The requirement only applies to riders new to the sport or to novice level. It does not apply to horses. Once a rider has achieved the required three BE100 runs they are then qualified to ride other horse at novice level. There is no qualification for a horse to compete in a novice class.

Thank you!!!!!!! :) I will be meticulously saving all of these links so that I can refer back to them! I don't have Pippa's autobio - I do have Leslie Law's, but think Pippa's may be a wise investment!

Thanks ever so much :) x
