Which would be most suitable for a TB suffering from the 'typical' low heels, long toe, soft soles - being fed a realtively b/f friendly diet - ers pellets, non mollassed chaff, linseed, good quality hay and average grazing. Is there anything to recommend one more than the other ?

I've got a 3yr old TB x ID on the progressive earth pro hoof balancer. He is very grass sensitive and gets flat feet and noticeable rings on the walls with even small amounts of grass. The heels are very prone to trying to run under too.. The difference in quality between the old hoof and the new is phenomenal. Old hoof is flared, ridged and long in the toe. New hoof is tight, neat and smooth. He's never had shoes on and the trim and work he does is the same (I.e naff all ;) ) so the only difference is the supplement.

Both PE and FP make excellent supplements, so either would be a good choice. Which is best for you will depend on the mineral profile of your grazing and hay. If an analysis isn't practical, then you can use trial and error to find the best supplement for you. Pick one and give it a try; if in a few months time you think improvement could be better, then try another and see if you get tighter growth.

I have used both but my TB is fussy and I struggled to get her to eat the Forage Plus one. She does eat the PE one happily though and her feet now look fantastic - I have managed to get her back shoes off (vet recommended I keep her shod due to poor hoof quality) and as has been said already, you can see when she started on the PE by looking at her hooves.

I did not get great result with the progressive earth one but am seeing good result with forage plus with two horses .
I have my TB on farriers formula the results are awesome , Farriers Formula has never let me down.
I think it may be to do with where the horses graze it would seem logical to me that as their are differences between these supplements some will be better for some places than others.

I'm preferring Forageplus atm. We're on their winter balancer plus extra MagOx and phosphorus now we're balanced following mineral analysis. Prohoof defo helped in the beginning but in order to get over the flat feet needed something else. Have also had to drop fastfibre in favour of Coolstance Copra.
