At last - I've found out what happens to all those 'Intelligent horsemanship' trained horses!
Adverts go along the lines of 'I've done IH with my 12 year old 14.2hh cob, and he has bonded with me really well but bucks me off whenever I get on. Must go to an IH home. £3500 to reflect how good he could be if only someone could ride him'

Good point.
If IH does't work for them, why don't they do traditional methods instead, though?
And why do they want so much money for horses that they er...don't want and can't handle?

How can the person selling this horse "16.3h bay gelding aged 13. Did nothing for the first 12 years of his life... only works on his terms"." expect someone to pay £3000 for him?!!!!

Do they mean he was unbroken until a year ago, or he just wasnt competed?

A d***ed fine question.
And doesn't say much for the owners that they are getting rid of the horse without solving its issues...so much for respecting your horses and understanding them!

God there are some people on that website that make me soo mad..

Don't get me wrong, there are some genuine, nice people trying to sell some nice horses. (I like Brian!) But honestly -

Megatastic - TBxISH Mare - For Sale - Hampshire

Out of Top Tiger grade A showjumper, bomb proof hack, good with farrier, to catch, got fantastic safe jump and would make good eventer or cross country horse, but is a bit manic in school. Not nasty and doesn't try to buck or rear but can canter off (never done it on a hack). I think she needs some natural horsemanship to retrain her. She was my daughters horse but she has left home and Mega has been turned away for a couple of years. She is barefoot, has been ridden treeless and in a bitless bridle. She does not respond well to conventional type riding, shouting and pushing but if treated calmly she is a very gentle horse.

£2000 but only to a wholistic home which practices natural horsemanship.

Are only NH practising people going to look after your horse? I wonder if I ask BE nicely they'll let me do the dressage in a bitless bridle..?










No.. Darn. Guess its back to shouting and pushing for me.
 
IH is quite ironic if you think about it - If you were intelligent you would realise that there is more than one way to skin a cat.

IMO the I should stand for IGNORANT....becasue common sense and using an approach which actually suits the horse is much more intelligent!

Some horses need sofly softly, whereas some need a kick in the ribs, a smack on the bum and a firm hand.
 
I suspect this is the shape of things to come! So many people buy horses that are too much for them, but won't admit it and hash on regardless. A few months or years down the line, they own a problem horse that's become dangerous and finally decide to get rid - but they don't want to lose money, so they try to sell it for the same money they bought it for. (usually it hasn't been ridden for a while by this stage) Why aren't people honest with themselves about their ability? As for the natural horsemanship angle - nice in theory, but not all that practical (or successful) for most of us. Common sense and being honest with yourself are the best tools you can employ to avoid making expensive and heartbreaking mistakes.
 
Past the time to edit, but some people neglect to mention age, height, breeding or anything of use except an essay along the lines of.. 'He's clicker trained and has so much potential but I'm scared sh*tless of him'

Gah!! Feufolet, Ignorant Horsemanship - I like it. (From hence forth I will now call NH Negligent Horsemanship too..)

Sometimes its the seller who isnt honest about the horse that creates the problem (can you tell I've been there).

I agree that people seem to think that NH is THE only way to deal with a problem horse, but thats not always the case.

Also seems that it doesnt matter if the horse could kill you at 20 paces with a snort if its been "trained using natural methods".

I have nothing against IM, Parelli etc, but some people seem to think that its a quick fix. I think is more of a tool- like a bit or martingale- works in the right hands if used in the right way!
 
Following on from that, Shaab, this advert bothers me;

Raced once 2/3 years ago, could be potential point to pointer/project horse or potential broodmare. Freezemarked and Weatherbys passport. Only the highlighted bits actually tell you anything at all about the horse that is actually for sale. I mean, is the advert for the horse, or for her breeding? I dont really care about the races her sire has won - i want to know if she's going to try and eat me the second i sit on her, or if she'll corner me in the stable or something.
 
We have just bought one of those!!!
But may I add for a lot less than that and to save him from the IH route.
We can't get on him but we knew that when we bought him and he is going away to be sorted next week

a lot of the time it the owners that have over horsed themselfs offten there is not much wrong with the horse its just too much and got away with murder. there is nothing wrong with these methods (i use IH regualy) but you do need common sense and horses sense. and this is were some of these people go wrong! its not a quick fix its another way of training and like any training method done correctly can produce good results done incorrectly can have disarstrous concequnces. i dont like the term 'natural' as it is not that at leat the term intelligent applys you should use just that! i do find the adds on ph just a little ott though!!!!!!!

Funniest thing is, if she is trying to put her broodmare potential across we need the dam line - not what the sire is!
Also, dont think shes worked out that Karinga Bay died last year. Hes not on his way anywhere!
 
Some of the horses on there are SO overpriced but some i would just LOVE to get my hands on!!!
I noticed the IH stuff too and I personally think it's because people get involved in NH/IH without fully understanding it - and therefore do not enforce any discipline on their horses and end up being played for mugs. NH is a good way of doing things and common sense most of the time - but the horse needs a groundline of discipline and needs to know what is and isn't acceptable. This is the part most people miss.
 
It's not much of an advert for NH or IH, is it?
I guess, with Shaab, I'll have to resort to the kicking and shouting too! Or was it pushing and shouting? Or kicking and pushing?
Life can be difficult for us unintelligent synthetic horsemen/women (but at least you won't see my horses begging for a home like this)&gt;
